e30 chip in an e36?

just a quick question - am i right in saying that the 318is E36 up until 1996 has the same M42 engine as the E30 318is?

I was wondering if some of the chips offered for sale on this forum would work correctly in an E36 318is or not?

When i bought a chip for my m42, the seller said that it wont work on m44(e36 318is) engine. :roll:

yeah the m44 is the engine they used after 1996 i think.

totally different, the e36 codes all have 358 in the software, 358 means ews
