A mate of mine has just had his E36 M3 evo saloon writen off.
He wants to sell the car complete rather than have the trouble of breaking it, but does not know what sort of value it has.
Anyone that has done a conversion know what sort of money this is worth?
The car is a 1996 M3 evo saloon 127,000 miles with full Bmw service history
Thanks, Andrew

E36 M3 Evo engine and all running gear value?
Moderator: martauto
If parts of them are stil good sell off the bumpers, spoiler mirrors, lights to some idiot with a 316 that wants an M3 rep. Charge him a 100 quid for the M3 badge, He'll probably fork out

Engine and box is probably worth around 1500-2500 depending on how it's running
The brakes and suspension would be worth a nice bit too since most of the front parts could be used for a 5 stud conversion except the springs. The wheels would be sell for a few hundred quid too if they haven't been damaged.
The M3 leathers go for around 6-900 euro over here but it being a 4 door might restrict the market.
I know somebody that would like this interior for their 4 door E36 but shipping would be crazy

M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream
I wouldn't pay that for a rear ended e36 M3 saloon, I've bought and broke a few cars now, depending on the damage, I wouldn't pay half of that. The saloon is worth less anyway, plus the fact that theres nothing special about the leathers in the loon, other than some having the tri-colour M stripes.
Essentially, the only thing on this car worth the money is the engine and you have to factor taking it all out. So, the front bumper is no more than a ton, the side skirts are about £50, side moldings are about £70. The brakes will only go on another non-M car if they have the hubs and shocks, possibly then the top mounts (yes I know they will bolt up, but the geometry will be out). The interior is £3-400 realistically. Wheels, depend wholly on condition, up to £500, but, thats pushing it, more like £300 most of the time.
Thats:
Engine £2000 (hopefully, more like £1500)
Interior £400
Wheels £400
Bumper £100
Skirts £50
Moldings £70
3k is well out, unless someone wants to purchase the car and spend hours stripping, storing and selling bits all for not a lot of money..
I know of a complete BMWSH saloon that the owner is asking £3650 for, its a bit older and has more mileage, but hey, its not smashed up.

^^ From what I have seen of breaking M3's that is spot on.
A real absolute top notch 50k engine is £3000 with history and a guarantee although a 126k motor is £1500 ebay fodder as above. I'd say he would be realistic to expect around £1600 for the car complete.

Thanks for the info I will pass on the news.
Would it be easy to shift all the bits if he does decide to break it himself?
When you say 1500-2000 for the engine does that price inc gearbox loom diff etc.
Thanks, Andrew

Yes they can, but you have to bear in mind that they are designed to fit without the excessive camber on the evo, the brakes need the M3 hub, the evo has a slightly different hub, so you cannot fit the M3 brakes (evo or 3.0) to a non-M3 without the hub and fitting of the hub means that the standard shock will not fit with the correct geometry. The car will run positive camber without the the top mount on standard shocks. My point was that you will not be able to sell on the brakes to some one who wanted a quick upgrade.. Which is the case, it all needs swapping.Jhonno wrote:the top mounts can be used on non evo's to give 2.5 deg -ve camber on the front
but the complete struts will just bolt up and geo should be fine!
My price for the engine is for a complete engine, PAS pump, alternator and every thing that should bolted to the engine in place, along with the box and a complete loom.
Thing is with breaking a car, most parts take time to sell on, the only way you shift stuff quick is if you sell everything cheap, which obviously means that the value of the parts is less..
If he wants to talk a more realistic figure then I will be interested, if he wants to break it himself then I will be more than happy to help shift the parts for him.

Are the 3.2's still making that money??
I spent £2200 on a damaged MRoadster 2 years ago! It was a 1997, 48,000 miles and had had a warranty engine new in 2000.
