This has now been resolved. maz894 has given me a full refund.
Thanks very much maz.
Maz894 PMed me in response to my wanted ad for a Sterling Silver bootlid.
He said: "i have 1 in perfect condition".
This is what turned up:
Corner 1:
Scratch:
Corner 2 (not very clear, sorry):
Scratch/chip:
Corner 3:
Corner 4:
Rust:
Close up of rust:
This is not what I call "perfect".
I sent copies of these pictures to maz894 on Tuesday 13/09/11 and have heard nothing from him since.
I suggest that anyone buying from him should take his descriptions with a pinch of salt and make sure you inspect before paying.
Ben

That's stretching the definition of perfect quite a bit. Always worth getting pictures of the item first, to avoid disappointment.
Hope you didn't pay too much for it.

With only a sheet of bubblewrap it was never going to be a good buy

That bubble wrap thing is so true, I just wrapped some rear quarter pop outs for some one, I used a ton of cardboard, half a roll of bubble wrap and a whole roll of brown tape. I then covered it in "handle with care" & "fragile" and I am still nervous.
That bootlid wrapping right there is woeful.

correct Peter. these parts are second-hand car parts and are a quarter of a century old usually, so how can they POSSIBLY be "Perfect" or "Mint" ?
However, having said that, i never describe parts as perfect or mint (god, i hate that ridiculous word) so would agree that the word "perfect" was inappropriate.
i'm sure that with a good T-Cut and the correct touch-up stick, then a good polish, the bootlid would come up very nice. the rust is absolutely minimal and presumably it is dent-free, otherwise you would have mentioned it.

Moral of the story = insist on good pics of anything before parting with cash.
Awful effort at packaging as well.

Exactly so why tell the buyer it is perfect when its not.
Ive posted wings in the past only because they are light, bubblewrap packing and a big cardboard box to fit them in. No chance of damaging even if they fall off the back of the lorry. Trouble is the packaging usually costs more than what the part is worth

If you go to your local Halfords they will give you a cycle box, which is ideal for boot lids and wings.

Perfect = Without fault.
As it happens, I have a near perfect bootlid available. Sadly it's in Zinnoberrrot.
