I have a 1990, 3 series 318i, which runs like a pig and needs a good tuning, by someone who knows what they are doing, so if anyone knows a place where i could have mine done in South London.......i would really appreciate it.

Hi there and welcome to the e30 zone.
I dont know how much you know about e30's but I'll give you some basic info.
Your car will have the m40 engine. its a 1.8 8 valve engine with hydraulic tappets. over time the Tappets and the camshaft can become worn causing a constant "ticking "sound- does your engine have this?
a poor idle and "hunting" where the car does not stay at one idle speed could be caused either by an air leak in the intake or a duff Idle Control Valve.
If you could let us know what symptoms your car exhibits we'll do our best to try to sort them!

Thanks for the info Neil, and i only know a basic amount about the E30, except the obvious things....such as brakes, filters, starter motor etc, as this is my first. It does not hunt, but just sounds rough, and noisey, and one other thing it does, is at about 40 MPH....it jerks, as though it is starved of fuel, but then it stops when i accelerate, or take my foot off the pedal. I would really appreciate any thoughts you have on this.
Thanks again
Howard
