Menzerna 400, oxidised paint, swirl marks and adding pin stripes

Hi all

Detailed the car a few weeks ago and thought I'd post the results of Menzerna 400 as it was my first time using it. Having used Meguiars 105 previously, the dusting from it was infuriating even though it was excellent at cutting paint.

I tried a few passes of the Menzerna after claying and it had very little effect. Decided to wet sand with P2000 to clear the oxidisation and this is where the Menzerna comfortably dealt with the sanding marks and left very little smaller scratches. Another pass of Meguiars Speed Glaze finished of the panels very well and then IPA prior to the pin stripes.

Very low dusting from M400 and a good working time even when it was partially sunny and reasonably warm outside.

Thanks guys :D

Would love to meet up, I've never met any zoners in person! I'm going to the BMW Festival in Gaydon in August so preparing the car for that at the moment.

Thanks

I've always been a fan on the stripes, look naked without them in my opinion. I wanted grey/silver but they are NLA. I put silver/silver on my diamond black 325i but thought they'd stand out to much on dolphin grey so opted for black/silver. A subtle nod to the 80s.

Thanks

Nice! Do you have any photos of the car side on? I’ve got a dolphin grey and always wanted to do the pin stripes as they looked great on my red 316. But I’ve not been sure of which combo to go for with the Dolphin grey

Hi BristolE30

Not right from the side, still a bit of an angle on the photos. Many stripe combinations are NLA, I put silver-silver on my last 325i but went with silver-grey for this one. It's very subtle, the grey can only be seen in certain lights and at certain angles.

My first choile was light grey-black but not available anymore 😓 my old dolphin grey had black-black and it was even more subtle than this one!

Thanks

Great looking car and good job with the stripes. Stripes suit the car and capture the period perfectly.
The detailing on this car looks brilliant ( a fellow OCD detailer ? ) - nice to see that the engine bay looks stock without the need for a repainted rocker cover etc.
The vid is also good - a much better "sales" vid than the so called "professional" ones that are on dealer websites. I notice original mats in good condition. The missing heel pad on my mat is the only thing letting my interior down.
Good job - enjoy!

Hi Ocde30

Thanks for the positive comments 🙂

It was prepped and detailed as I had a good idea it would come up well as the car had been garaged all its life. A lot of hours went into it, engine bay was the weakest part, which I will detail this year but I won't be painting the rocker cover as I also prefer the original look.

My heel pad is starting to lift, I kept them from my 325i as I love originality wherever possible.

Thanks

Looks amazing! Sorry for the slow reply I didn’t see these posts.

I think the black silver stripes look good. Are they available still? Is only place to get from dealer?

Hi! No worries at all. Black/silver are still available, I got them from Cotswolds here on the forum.

Thanks
