Clay Bar/Polish Advice

Hello Chaps.

I have recently purchased a new family bus. I started to clean the car at the weekend and noticed that the paint is full of tree sap and loads of other dirt and tar.

I have never clayed a car before. Can anyone recommend any products?

The car is a five series touring so how many clay bars do I need?

Can anyone give me a little idiots guide how to get the best results.

Also the alloy wheels have not seen much love. They are not curbed but covered in ground in brake dust and tar.

I have been told that mentholated spirit can be used?????

Any advice on what to buy and what to pay would be a real help.

Thanks

Scott

I would say r.e claybar meguiars kit is a good buy, one claybar per car is adequate to handle the job aslong as the car is washed and clean, you will have it gleaming just remember polish wax then sealant also after you have claybarred you can wash the car dry it the polish, wax and sealant will be gleaming once its finished, as for the wheels mate get em off and good elbow grease should bring them up, degreasant, rtf liquid should help also and get some pics up! goodluck mate

you can use a wax or a sealant but there's not benefit to using both.

as for a place to purchase, try elite car care. if you want to go to halfords either the meguires or AG stuff will be up to the job. with the quick detailer you get, mix it 50/50 with water. it will last longer and still great for the job

Bilt Hamber clay bar. You don't need any special lubricant, just water and it does a great job.
