Does anybody know how to stop this happening?
It seems no matter what I use on the paint it always leaves a smeared finish.
This morning ive gone over the panels with panel wipe to remove all wax products, this left a clean, solid finish. But as soon as I apply a product to it it just smears again.
I did the bootlid first, spraying panel wipe with an atomiser and wiping over with a microfibre cloth, then used some AG Ultra Deep Shine polish which is supposedly designed for dark colours but when buffed off it was smeared again, went over with AG High Def wax and just seemed to move the smears around.

I panel wiped the bonnet and polished, then panel wiped again before wax. This left a similar crap finish

The roof was panel wiped then straight to wax, crap again.

I couldnt be bothered with the rest

In the shade it looks fantastic, but in direct sunlight its a right state

Im not turning into a bufty, I just want the car to look clean on the rare occasion I can be arsed to put the effort in!

Sounds like marring to me, most likly from the deep shine.

Try using Autoglym super resin (or similar) if you have some, buy hand. As I'm guessing you don't own a DA polisher or a rotary? But use a very small amount (pea size for a 10x10" area.

Work it until clear then buff with a clean microfiber.

Then apply your wax, leave for 20 mins. Then buff. Then I would go round the waxed area with a detailing spray and a soft cloth(fluffy microfiber) this will remove any excess wax left and also bring a much better clarity to the paint.

Failing that these could be RDS in the paint and it will need machine polishing with some harsher abrasives and or a flatting with some sandpaper.

Ive tried SRP before which is why I bought the Deep Shine Polish as its supposed to be for dark colours

I had the very same problem with the Ultra Deep Shine mate, don't use it. It seems to leave a greasey layer that makes the pain look awful in direct sunlight. The smear marks you are getting are where there is more polish left on that sweep compared to the paint around it.

As Tez said, use the super resin as he intructed then put a thin coat on high definition wax on. Keep the sponge very damp though to ensure you get even thin coverage.

After all this mist each panel with a quick detailer and lightly buff offf with a fluffy microfibre to even the finish out.

That's what I'd do anyway.

What are quick detailers made of? Are there any differences or better types to go for?

I cant see how it is the deep shine as I went over it with panel wipe to remove it, it must be too much wax on the panel, its not easy to apply a small amount as the sponge just rolls up in your hand

For the money the best one is Megs last touch used neat as a QD or dilute it with some RO or filtered water.

What I tend to do with hard wax's is mist(very light) the foam pad with some QD first then apply the wx to the pad but you really do need bugger all.

Then use that amount to do nearly a whole panel, the thinner the better.

Apply it in small circle motions to ensure a even light film.

Never RUB it into the paint, as a Wax is just a LSP and the rubbing motion/firction will cause more damage than you think. (marring)

Thanks, I will try and get some megs from halfrauds.
I find it hard to apply the wax without pressure as the sponge drags and rolls up if there isnt enough wax on. It looks like too much wax is definitely the problem though

Yeah more than likely! - I would stay clear of halfuads, far to expensive. Get Last touch by the bulk as you will soon use it up.

Also the wax applicator you get with Hd wax is in my opinion very poor indeed.

I managed to buy the last bottle of megs quick detail spray on the shelf, there was no price tag and the till didnt recognise it so I got it at a knocked down price of £4.99

Just had a quick go with it and its making the finish a hell of a lot better, its hard to see as the sun has nearly gone for the day but it is taking quite a bit of rubbing in to get rid of the streaks

its designed for modern water based paints as well.


1st up, the german applicator. thats a good idea. keep it damp when using the SRP. work it in well then buff off. pannel by pannel is best. a quick squirt of quick detailer helps remover any smears you may have. but the quick detailer does not like warm pannels that much and ,may smear as well, so may be worth mixing it 50/50 with water. mist it on with one microfibe and buff iff with an other

If the quick detailer will work just as well diluted 50/50 it sounds like a good idea to me

detailing = OCD lol

It may be OCD but there is a limit to how much I will get involved, if the results are not going to be near perfect I really cant be arsed
