Now, I need some advice. Definately from C76_Jon and also from Dave H aka D6DPH...
I'm thinking of getting...

I'm also looking into something thats gonna remove swirl marks and stuff. Am I right in assuming its the NXT Tech Wax stuff???

Dimebag,
I would steer clear of waxes if it was me, they dont last that long and in my experience dont give the maximum shine. I use Zaino gear from www.advancedcarproducts.com
In a normal polishing session i use z1, z2, z7, z8 and z12
If i see any swirls i go over the panel with zpc and then the above process
Only use microfibre cloths as they will not scratch the paint
Cant argue with the results -

Stunning finish there Ben.
NXT wax is a bit of an all-in-one product (don't mean it as a bad thing), has a bit of cleaner in it and will leave protection. It will help mask the swirls, but it won't do anything to remove them.
Neither will the Megs 3 step stuff.
Step 1 is a chemical cleaner, non-abrasive. Good stuff though.
Step 2, although called Polish, is infact non-abrasive again. Its an excellent glaze to use after a proper polish, and will help give the paint some depth by nourishing it.
Step 3 is just a Carnuba based wax, and I wouldn't bother with. Much better pure waxes for the money.
If you were to use something like Megs Step 2, don't then use the NXT wax afterwards, because the cleaners im it would just remove whatever you had put on the paint already.

Stu, All good stuff but I still say the NXT tech wax is not needed.
All in all a good selection of stuff there.
It is not always about the products you use but how you use them. Invest in some high quality cloths, some microfibre applicator pads and work methodically. The cloths are not really expensive and make the results so much easier to achieve.
I have been using a lot of Chemical guys products lately and am very happy with the results, These pictures was taken on Saturday at lakeside.

That was with a leisurely 4hrs work, and in that 4hrs I must have had 3 cups of tea and a quick snack
If you want a list of the products I use, Say the word mate.

neil, i will do!
Dave, i saw them pics, and i must say, the car is looking amazing!!
i do have some microfibre cloths and pads for applying/removing the polish
i will use the carnauba wax, as i love the way the water beads off the paint.. water = dirt!!
i'd love to use zaino, but i just cant afford too
does anyone know of any products that would remove swirl marks then?

You're not going to remove swirls by hand (well, not without causing a hearty in the process), best bet is to mask them. But I won't mention a suitable product because last time it got accused of being nasty. Horses for courses and all that. Autoglym Super Resin Polish seems to keep a lot of people happy.....oh bugger, I've said it now.
If you're set on removing them (which is without a doubt the only real answer), save up and get someone to machine polish the car. If you did the prep work (wash, clay, wash & dry) and the waxing afterwards, you wouldn't even have to pay for a full detail. Just 3-4 hours of someones time.
Or get someone to teach you how to do it and possibly borrow one? Just a suggestion.

I use the Z16 tyre gloss, Can I be in the zaino lover group toobillgatese30 wrote:another zaino lover here too
I would love to try it, I just can't justify that sort of price on my old car. If I had yours or Ben's cars I would invest but it really isn't worth it on my car.

ShineOn... I used to use Autoglym and thought it was really good, then I woke up and started using Meguiars. I hate to say it, but Autoglym isn't half as good as Meguiars... in my mind.
We could go on all day about what product we all thought was the best, it's each to their own.
Do you use Autoglym professionally?
Dave... try using Turtle Wax 'Wet & Black' for your tyres... it really is good. I produced a round 'mask' with a handle cut out to hold over the wheel when spraying it on though... well worth making one up!

so, autoglym super resin polish eh!!
we have machine polish at work (i work for a BMW dealers, for those who dont know. Dave, be quiet!) and I have often thought about stealing the bottle for the weekend and having a go myself with one of those mahine buffer things! my old man bought one from hellfrauds and it looks quite cool!
the machine polish im speaking of is the 3M stuff, which i've heard in the 'industry' is the nuts...
so, you reckon wash - clay - wash - dry - machine polish - wash again? - paint cleaner? - polish? - then wax?
does that sound cool? obviously, i'll be using the proper lambs 4rse glove and microfibre pads etc...

I have some of that Giles, Fine for my Yaris and Dad's Volvo but too sticky and glossy for the E30. The Zaino stuff leaves a nice deep sheen that isn't sticky and lasts really well (Wow check out my infomercial style postGeeman wrote: Dave... try using Turtle Wax 'Wet & Black' for your tyres
Ooh you smooth man! I wouldn't want to tarnish the Zaino name by using it on "my scrap"billgatese30 wrote: your scrap is surely worthy of the zaino treatment

Sorry mate, wasn't trying to be confrontational - it was just a suggestion.Geeman wrote:ShineOn... I used to use Autoglym and thought it was really good, then I woke up and started using Meguiars. I hate to say it, but Autoglym isn't half as good as Meguiars... in my mind.

I use Menzerna and Pinnacle polishes for defect correction, and depending on the application I have a selection of Chemical Guys, Pinnacle, Poorboys and Megs stuff for glaze, sealant and wax.
Zaino is something I'm tempted to try, having heard so many people speak good of it. But I think too many people fall into a trap of trying 'the new big thing', instead of concentrating on finding the best working methods of a given products, learning how it works and when its having the best effect. Saying that, if you don't try new things you don't move on!
Stuart, machine at work is probably a rotary - best for results but takes a little time to master. Take it easy, keep the speed down and you'll be fine.
I'd wash/clay/wash/dry/polish/seal or glaze then wax. You don't have to seal or glaze, I just think it gives an extra dimension to the paint and a little extra protection.
