If i were going to machine polish a car using maguires compound do you need to use water with it or does it self lubricate

No water is needed at all :)

Never used any water with a machine polish, bit of spray on the pad before you start and job done.

yip i agree. A spritz of water to prime the pad and then you the correct polishes.

with the older type compounds water was needed but with the modern stuff its not required. i is handy to have some close by to cool down the panel if it gets too warm

I use megs 105 and 205 and they are fine to use as they are, just prime your pad as normal and you will be ok.
