Looking good, how many coats of spray did you use?

I think I would be tempted to smoke the reverse light though.

HAHA! great minds! my, "not finished yet" statement was for that exact reason! i used about 4-5 coats. . . i just kept putting the bit i was spraying against the other light to see how similar they look

one finished, and one not. . . infact their both not finished because iv still got to laquer the whole lot. . .

now their finished lol, , , they both look the same, just cant be bothere to conect the camera up etc. . .

laquering them will help the color stay longer. I haven't and mine start to fade wear off after a 1 - 2 yrs which means I gotta respray them.

oh mate, its one of the eaies DIY mods iv done. . . just masked off the indicator and sprayed it with Folia tech Red tint from hal'frauds'. . . i kept matching them against the standar light to make sure i had the correct shade of red then just gave the indicator 2 coats of smoke spray. . . i laquered mine for 2reasons. . . i found rubbing the lights down gave the spray a much better surface to stick too also iv rubbed down all markings on the lights. . . so so 'E' markings or anything embosed, they are totally smooth 8)

i gave them 2coats of laquer, i was going to rub them and polish them out with tcut, but i like the sort of satin finish the laquer gave mine

cheers for the comments lads! pics this weekend as its always dark when i get home from work!!

I started doing mine on the weekend, i bought a can of translucent red from ebay and a spare set of lights to play with. I didn't do as many coats as above as I was concerned with how dull the lights would become as well as being red rather than orange. I put on about 3 coats, i did not laquer. There is a dullness to the indicator but that doesnt bother me. With three coats you dont get an exact match. However its a toss up between exact colour match and functionality! Even with 3 coats i reckon the indictor is 50% dimmer...Its an easy mod to do, there's a guide in the articles section.

I might go back to it at some point and make it darker but right now iv got bigger problems with the car... damn thing has startd kangerooing again at idle (but thats another thread)!!!

Yep I swap between two sets as well, 1 red & 1 standard! As I could'nt get them to flash orange even with amber bulbs in! :(
Just don't use em if a police car is behind you! :?
Which reminds me almost that flippin time of the year to swap em round again!

Are they an MOT failure???? guess all those old yank cars you see on road must have no MOT as they have red indactors.

I've only ever heard it on the grapevine that they're illegal... I'm sure someone will confirm

I think they are illegal, I did mine myself with about 4 coats and some heat  I've still got some standard ones as well for the MOT, even though the black ones still shine through nicely in with every colour.

been tempted to do mine, but i think it will be overkill on red if i do the reverse lights aswell as my car is burgundy.... dont want to find they are too dim though..... whagt are peoples general experiences
