Help with choosing ICE

Can anyone tell me what the best head unit is to get for my E30 cab?
My current one is about dead and the speakers are tired.
I am looking to keep it fairly cheap on the head unit and want to keep the speakers in the original places with no extra cutting etc apart from adding two tweeters up front possibly. What are the best speakers to replace the originals and match up a reasonable head unit with radio/cd maybe mp3 adapter?Defo no bass bins in the boot, I use it.
Any pointers greatly appreciated as the wife gets my letter to Santa shortly.
Budget is about 400 tops, not a lot I know, maybe 5 at a squeak.

£400 is quite alot for a head unit (if you shop around). Have a look here:
http://www.bassjunkies.com/ theres a good choice and one of the best priced places around.
They are also a good company to deal with.

Also, my brother has this unit

Thanks for all advice, but I was looking at including the original speakers in with the price!
What are the best most powerful speakers I can get as direct replacements for the originals(i.e. same size?)

I cant remember what size speakers fit in the footwell but I know its not very deep. You would be best going for a set of components for the front and some 2 or 3 way speakers for the rear.
I dont advise components for the rear as I assume they are going in the cab in your sig and with the tweeters on display, some bugger will no doubt try to swipe them when the roof is down and wreck the wires and poss your speaker panels.
You could also get a small 4 way amp to run them.
I used to run Maystar QX speakers and amps which are a very good price, quality and in the db comps I used to run, I would often beat people running much more expensive systems like JL.
I hope this helps.

5 1/4 fit down in the footwell, and with the speakers go for some component speakers you will be much happier.

I bought a Becker Mexico Pro 7937

£250

I think it suits the E30 dash very well. Its a quality bit of kit and the faceplate comes off so nothing to see when you leave the car.
Just an idea to throw into the pot
