maybe you just have a low powered amp? do you know the spec of the amp?

could be over heating aswell, do you blow any fuses when it cuts out?

Im interested in a reply to this to , Few days ago mine started cutting the headunit out when i turn the volume up , Seems worse when the base kicks in and the whole lot turns off :?
I have changed nothing and thought it was a earthing issue but still does it :(

either the amp is having to work too hard to power the sub therefor is overheating, all good amps have a cutout circuit to protect them from cooking the circuit board or the main power feed wire is too thin a gauge

steve your amp sounds goosed m8

Amp is all good mate , Swapped the whole lot over bit by bit into my other car and powered up fine , Its the headunit thats turning off taking the amp out , Have tried it with no amp and still turns off but only in the e30 :?
Have tried earthing it in different places as well , Got me baffled unless its one of the speakers tripping it out :?:

have you tried a live feed from the batery to the head unit? it may be that the old wiring cant cope with the demand i used to have a mazda( :o: ) that did that when i think on it... might work

I've seen all these problems in BM's before on a mate's car....

basically it's power + earth cables that are causing the fault...

if the head-unit's switching off, then sort that things power and earth (both power wires red and yellow),

and then if the amp continue's troubleshoot similarly with that!

also, check to see if your lights dim when you're cranking it...if they do, then you know there's a power issue as other electrical's are being affected!

ive had this prblem wiv my alpine unit. . . . .evrytime i put the volume up the unit cut off. . .

i then tried another hed unit and all was fine. . .

so it could be that ur headunit could be faulty not the power or earth cables!!

run a power from the battery to the head unit, its a common thing on e30s not enough current through the std wiring.
