Can anyone tell me conclusively what these front seats are from. Ive been led to believe that they are from an e30 m3 evo. They are OEM BMW seats, but from what?

They look like proper Recaros to me, rather than the BMW Sport seats that get - wrongly - called Recaros.

Someone on another site said they thought they might be from an e21... which is now after setting me thinking. I always just assumed that what I was told about them was true. Proper comfy seats they are. Certainly not standard m3 or sport evo front seats.

They look like Recaro Highbacks, seen them in some early E30's, they are very nice. If you want to sell them, give me a shout.

Highbacks have integral headrests, Theo.

Do they really? Well, these are what are commonly referred to, incorrectly as it transpires, as Highbacks on the zone.

Chris-W, could you show me a picture of what a real highback looks like please?

Theo - sorry you've taken the post, as it transpires, so personally.

Think about the name 'highback' for a bit.

additionally..... highBACKS say nothing about the headrest....just the back.

That's my point, Scott.

A highback is a car seat with an integral headrest, and this doesn't just relate to E30's. Been around certainly since the 70's to my knowledge, very ptrobably earlier. It just a car seat term.

Think highbacks in an Evo Sport for an E30 reference.

They're Recaro 'LS' seats, optional on various BMWs of the 1980s and favoured on Alpinas of the period. Have a look underneath and there should be a model code sticker to check.

What on earth are you on about?

I simply was interested to see what a proper highback seat looked like, obviously at face value one could imagine that it is a hig-backed seat. But then again, taken literally you would assume that a comfort seat is comfortable, which IMO - it isn't!!

Sorry Theo - tired when I wrote that & seemed to assume the worst.

Gents, before I actually physically go outside, get on my knees and search for a part number for these seats, can anyone point me to where I should be looking??

The curiosity as to what they are is eating me up. A lot of the US gang are claiming that they are e21 seats. :o

I had a pair of those seats, albeit in cloth, taken from an old e30 alpina c1 2.3, and i've seen them in a few other e30s too, they really are superb. The recaro's in e21's look different, there is a dumped e21 in a hedge that I know of with a pair in there, shame it's so far away, otherwise I would be tempted to remove them!

As for part number, it will probably be under the seat base, but you could save yourseld a bit of time and go to www.realoem.com and have a search around until you see the relevant seat, the picture Chris posted is the right one.

Is this a part number gents?

091.58.144

BMW E30LS SSK FLOCK DIAGO

Found a sticker under the seat with that, some other bits written on it also but none that seemed inportant.

Is that the part number and is there somewhere I can enter that into to check...?

I would think that's the Recaro part number.

Are they any lower than "standard" Recaros?

These were a regular production option on M3s but rare and even rarer on standard e30s, usually only found on chrome turds.

and my SE, from new

Regardless of what they're called, they are superb in every respect, apart from having no tilt function, which is weird considering they are the "upgrade" from BMW sport seats which have the tilt mech.

I've seen them in a few E21's, in fact that 323 Turbo turd on Ebay is equipped Iirc ?

Theyre fantastic seats alright, 16 years, over 100k on the clock and the bolsters feel as strong as ever.

i reckon those seats are definatly recaro seats, but judging by the way they are trimmed, i reckon they are probably from an early 6-series..... (couldnt be arsed to read all the way through the posts (sorry i know thats very lazy)... but did see something about the bmw sport seats being incorrectly refered to as recaro seats this could be true ( i am definatly not saying its not) but i always thought that they were made for bmw by recaro?? either way..... i really prefer them to 'aftermarket' recaro seats....
