I got my hands on an original Pioneer stereo casette and speakers for the current E30 to replace the naff aftermarket install in it. I wired them all together on a board and connected up the car battery and it all working perfectly with that lovely amber illumination :D

It might only be 7W per channel but I'm as happy as a pig in sh*t as its the same setup as in my previous E30. Hopefully I'll get it installed this weekend.

Don't do it, you'll hate yourself 8O

I'm all for keeping it original but I bet spending longer than 10 minutes in the car without company is gonna drive you insane!

Would that be the Pioneer tape player that has a 'P' shaped key to remove it: when you put the key in, a handle snaps out and the whole thing can be removed?
I have one of those and always thought it was aftermarket...

It has a handle on the front of the unit that you lift and the whole unit comes out of its cage. These were supplied as original equipment in some E30s. Balupunkdt were also supplied.

Not feeling 100% right now as I fell asleep in front of the telly after dinner and wine, but with regard to the stereo, I'm getting the iS back to original condition and that includes everything including the sound system. I don't do loud music anymore while driving, so anything louder would be a waste :D

I think this one is "more" original if that's possible, it has BMW on the front. It's not that quiet either...

Quite possibly for sale soon as well

I still have the standard Bavaria Business C stereo in my car - the original gave up the ghost a couple of years ago and managed to find an immaculate example on ebay, all in £90.

I decided not to go down the aftermarket route and kit the car out with all singing all dancing stereo and speakers as I wanted the least amount of attention to my car as possible as the oiks round here are only too willing to try

Say no to nasty shiney rice ice wrongness !.
All my chariots have period becker, blaupunkt or nackeredmidget head units,no nasty,cd changers or wog boxes ,6x9s or other council accoutrements.
My 745 turbo has a becker mexico in the front and one in the rear armrest, actually thats why i bought it !,i'm glad i'm normal ! :)
Respect to Matt T ,that Becker is a thing of beauty,i have several.

That Becker does look class allright :)
Thought I would get the system fitted last weekend but found some rust around the big rubber grommet on the bulkhead behind the glovebox so time went on getting this repaired and sealed. Hopefully this will cure the water leak I have on passenger side. Just need some copious amounts of rain to check :D

Anyone know what model number Pioneer stereo was used originally, KEH 5100? And the numbers on the original Blaupunkt speakers?

Also were Pioneer and Blaupunkt used together in the same car?

That's what I've got in this 318i I'm selling, so I'm wondering if it's original factory stuff?

Andy

my original speakers in my cab were sony! and the head unit was extreamly futuristic, it took me about an hour to turn up the volume, it turns out it was a LED patch you slide your finger accross and the volume increased, i will get a pic it was awsome and original (didn't eject tapes though so its in my wardrobe with my best Bros cassette in there :x
