E30 Zone

Hi I am using my E30 daily and I don't mind what the radio looks like but I need it to work on an iPhone to make calls

Any advice

I was in the same boat but wanted something period looking. Looked at a few options and decided that I prefer not being contactable while driving and went for the Blaupunkt SQR88 Radio just with an Aux port. I spend enough time on the phone, bah humbug.

You can convert an original BMW CM5908 unit to Bluetooth with a kit.

For the Alpine unit, they will be a similar plug and play kit,

I have an Alpine unit in the E30 but have a spare Blaupunkt Stockholm 230 from the Lotus which I will swap over, they both have BT for the phone but the Blaupunkt behind the fascia has a slot for an SD card that you load with music and insert.
