Headunit and Speaker recommendations

Not sure if I want to go original OEM or modern subtle yet. Bluetooth streaming is convenient.

Looking for images and recommendations of headunit and basic 4 x speaker replacements for front and back.

Don't want an amp or bassbin; just a a better, newer setup that sounds good. Also dont want to start cutting bit of trim to make the speakers fit, so size and depth that works fo the speakers is important.

Modern headunits I've seen and quite like include...

Alpine UTE-200BT (£95)
https://www.halfords.com/technology/car ... -bluetooth

Kenwood KMM-BT502DAB (£80 refurb)
https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/kenwood ... efurb.html

Pioneer DEH-S4000BT (£76)
https://www.halfords.com/technology/car ... car-stereo

Speakers, its more complex as sound quality will likely be fairly standard regardless of choice, but...

Rockford Fosgate Punch Series 5 1/4 (£45)
http://caraudiosecurity.com/punch-serie ... e-speakers

Hertz UNO X130 (£50)
http://caraudiosecurity.com/uno-x130-13 ... eaker-160w

Pioneer TS-G1333i (£35)

Anything else I should be considering?

H/U wise - all modern ones will stand out a bit - I looked for one where I could at least colour match the buttons/display and ended up with a Pioneer with DAB & BT - can confirm the BT works perfectly for phone calls and streaming audio!
For a more OEM look, you can get bluetooth add on units that will work with most h/u's - there's one fitted in the e46 compact I've got and you just select it with the mode button and it shows as CD, but works ok!

Speaker wise, you can only really trust your ears - go and listen if you can.
Personally, I would say the fitting is almost as important. Obviously depends how much time/money you're wanting to put in, but I would say put some sound proofing behind and around the speaker (at least) and make sure when the speaker is in, it sits well and is sealed in place!

Thanks for the advice Miniblob.
Like the idea of improving the speaker space with some sound proofing too.

Found this on YouTube, adding a BT mode for music streaming.

Did you make a choice in the end?
I am doing exactly the same to my 1989 convertible E30 and am probably going for this Continental head unit...

I think the orange look will go with the 1980's vibe.

Still not decided on speakers and want simple bolt in ones so curious to know what you went with and whether they worked?

In the end I opted for a low key Panasonic head unit with Bluetooth and handsfree. The Continental I amy opt for in the future but I want to see how much I use it before investing (I often get distracted by just the sound of the car!).

Speaker wise I went for some simple Pioneers. Plug and play style. They just about fit and are sound much better then the oem ones I had in there before. I also added some self adhesive sound proofing while I had them out to help with rattling etc which seems to have worked quite well.

Thanks. I have gone for the Pioneers too and ended up with the Continental Blutooth / FM Radio.
I will put some soundproofing in too as you suggest. All scheduled for this weekend.
