hi folks

is there any solution to stop the cone on the front speakers hitting the speaker covers?

as the music is turned up the speaker cone starts hitting on 'full excersion' (sp?) with the speaker covers, creating a farting noise.

i have the orginal focal covers but any ideas are most welcome on what to do.

ive thought of cutting a whole, the diameter of the speaker in the covers and place the grills/mount around this but might look tacky, i would like a stock look as possiable.

any ideas people.

are you referring to the kick panel covers?

one idea is to cut a 6mm mdf ring and fit it round the driver cone and then 'stretch' (or bend) the kick covers back into place. this works well.

so does your supplied grills method, it's up to you. you can always turm the volume down....

turn volume down, good idea, its just sometime i like the bass from certain songs and then the right amount of trebble to match,, sound good,

i did read your article and was thinking to do the MDF mod, but the distance from the cone to the kick panel would stay the same, if not push the speaker more towards the kick panel, no?

Get a more powerful amplifier. It will control the cone more and stop it moving violently all the time. It moves because the amp doesnt have anough current (amps) to control it.

You should have these components running through a crossover thereby stopping the lower freqencies which are producing over extension on the speaker. If you have cross overs then check the install or return them as they should not be doing that.

ive got the stock focal crossovers, there installed correctly, ill double check that.

ermm, some good suggestions, either way they arent amped, but i thought the only reason they hit they kick panels becuase the cones to close to the kick panels?
because if you take the kick panels off the speakers work perfectly...

nadz - place the mdf rings between the speaker basket ring and the kick panel cover - not behind the speaker basket as i think you've understood.

amit - the crossovers will split the frequencies between the tweets and mids - it won't filter out anything below any certain frequency. you only have to look at the number of components inside them to know that they're pretty basic, filters take a little (but not much) more effort.

dude u hit the nail on the head, i understand you now, i thought you meant mount the speaker with a mdf ring between it, but it suppose to be on the front/top side of the speaker, now i see how it will help.
