If you going with 7-8x18 I think ET20 is the lowest to go.

The average idea of the et is 15-25.

I see now, so if you put a wheel on an E30 with et5 for example, it would stick out?? Is that right

with 17" et 25-30 16" same agian 18" you need a 7.5 j rim no wider and 28et offset
it depend on tyre size too, some have a curved side wall which helps clearance under the arch
i'm glad its your head ache not mine!!!
have a stella and think about it!!!!

So if i got 15" or 16" at et20, would i suffer with rubbing at 40mm drop with passenger's?

16" et 24 205/50 tyres 40mm black bilsteins(sports) drop and rubbing!! you gota roll the arches or go for a lower profile. they are very sensetive to offset these e30's
its mad because my old sport had bk171 alpinas 215/40 and the same drop but yellow bilsteins(sprints) and no rubbing!

It's alot more than just buying some wheel's as it goes. I don't know if you know but the profile of the tyre is the % of the width. So you have to take in the et and the tyre size to see what will fit and what has to give to compromise what wheel's you want
Nothing's ever easy

8x18" with ET20 work fine on E30...
