joseph,
I would say a must, for any convertible owner. Have a look around for the genuine BMW item. They came in four colours. They reduce wind noise, improve security, and stiffen the shell. I have got one on two my convertibles. A 'given' for the winter months!.
Cheers Gareth.

dont you have to watch the rear plastic window with a hard top on, or can you remove the soft top when fitting the hard top.

di would recommend to get the bmw original one. i hate the weissman ones. if you want the genuine bmw one colour coded you just need to get it stripped and painted. Also you dont need to take the soft top off. it just folds into its compartment as usual, and then you place hardtop on with bolt typee things.

dont really know of any suppliers. They are quit hard to come by. took me a few months to find one. Keep looking in for sale sectio here, on the LOOT website, and also anyone selling their car (Autotrader, etc..) with hardtop. This way just offer them for hardtop only.

Is there any quality difference between the BMW and Weismann tops or is it just a matter of taste ?

Bought mine from the German Ebay website, then drove to Germany to pic it up.
Cost me half the price of a hardtop in th UK.

Have seen genuine hard tops with an asking price of Ԛ£1,000. What is their normal retail value, new or used and how much are the non-genuine ones?

the normal retail value of a bwm original hardtop from ur bmw main dealer was Ԛ£1750 + vat, so ur talkin about nearley 2 grand, this was back in the days mind u, before they stopped production, but if u went to any bwm main dealer today, just ask them to punch it into their computers, coz the price is still listed on there systems.

If as you say they have stopped production of the genuine BMW top, how come I've been quoted a price of Ԛ£900 for a new one from a company called Operation Beema in London. Are they having me on?

first of all what the hell u doin talkin to me? id get my ass down there asap an buy the dam thing, cos thats a good price for a new one, and cheap if its a genuine bmw one, secondly i said that all offical bmw main dealers stopped suppling them to the public yeas ago, so i assumed that they must have stopped producing them. but the place ur talking about doesnt sound like a bmw main dealer to me? or is it? and u sure there offeing u a bmw hardtop and not a wiseman one? its quite easy to tell the difference between them. ask them to e.mail u some pics first. even if it is a wiseman one there still good hardtops to buy, ive got one on my car and looks good especially when u put all 4 windows down, makes it look like a pillarless coupe, bit like the old ce class mercs.

So the Wiesmann top is good quality wise and fit. As it comes colour coded I think it is the better option. Whats the feeling ? I am about to buy.

yup personally i think its good quality, mines came off a calypso red motorsport when i bought it, so i got it painted black to match my m3, the inner lining is velvet type material. i recently met a guy who had a wiseman hardtop on this car too, and his inner lining was all stitched leather & padded, so it matched the leather recaro interior of his m3, looked the mutts nuts. but the feeling is better than having the normal cloth hood up, especially on the motorway.

Original one is an absolute nightmare to colour code, really difficult to remove the vinyl and adhesive. Well worth it though.
