Hi all,

I have trawled through the previous threads on this topic and am struggling to find out exactly what im after.

One of my rear parcel shelf speakers has blown, and I'm thinking it is time to replace the whole system as the ones in the front are the originals and they are past it.

What I am after is just 4 speakers to replace the speakers already there, without having to cut. So just speakers which can just go straight in the holes that are already there. I understand the size is 5.25", and that i have to be wary about the depth of the speaker. Ideally I want co-axials as i dont want separate tweeters.

I already have what I think is an alright head unit, it does everything i need of it (i.e. play cds and my ipod) however what i do not know is if it is powerful enough to power 4 new speakers.

The head unit is a Sony CDX GT550UI, spec:
Output power = 52w.
Pre Out - Rear/ Sub switchable
Pre Out Volatge = 2v

I dont particulary want to run an amplifier if possible.

So effectivey what I am asking, as i dont undertand all he amps watts and volatges and dbs etc etc, is what spec speakers should I be looking at?

I am not looking for an incredibly loud system, just one with clarity which I can enjoy from within the car. I enjoy house music and reggae and hip hop.

Budget: as im only looking at 4 speakers, around £75-£100 total

Headunit is ok to power all 4 speakers.

Can you not measure the depth you've got then check the specs of the speakers on eBay.

Infinity speakers used to be slim, not sure if they still make them like that.

Yea I could measure them, and i will do, was just wondering if there are any particular speakers i should look out for/avoid!

Bigger speakers can be fitted. Do a search for ian332isport for 6.5" speaker conversion.

stick a set of pioneer components in thats what mines getting

if you possibly can then a 4 channel amplifier will make a massive difference and you'll not regret fitting it i promise.

won't break the bank.

failing that then some efficient speakers (as speaker efficiency is a bigger volume determinent than any other factor) are what you'll be needing. it's no good saying 'fit alpines' or 'fit pioneers' or the like, this helps you about as much as a kick in the head. what you need is a (hopefully knowledgeable) dealer that can demonstrate some suitable options for you to listen to side by side / back to back. your personal preference for which you consider sound best will be obvious to you. (if not then just chuck anything in there and worry not)

if you really are tight for cash then walk out of the dealers and buy what you liked the sound of on ebay / the internet for as cheap as you can find.

lastly - don't expect miracles for a ton of notes - that's £25 per speaker and for that there won't be a sonic reproductions of concert halls going on. consider carefully putting your working front pair in the back (or in the bin?) and spending all your budget on the best front speakers you can find. you won't regret that, i promise!

I had the same problem. If you put your working pair in the back it will allow you more cash for decent front ones. The rear speakers are only used as a 'fill' sound anyway and as long as they still sound reasonable I'd do that if I were you.

Also if you go into shops such as Halfords you can listen to various speakers then just ebay them to get them at about half the price.

The sales folks should also be able to tell you which ones will fit straight in without any fuss.
