325i Sport 2 - What about a different boot spoiler

I love my car but am begining to question the OE whale-like spoiler on the boot! I'm getting older and it's beginning to look wrong. Sorry to the purists. 8O I thought I'd try something different like the simple, thinner E46 sport or E39 sport spoiler. If I add this to my slightly lowered Eibach pro-kit springs and the 16" Alpinas it will look great! The car is black. Anyone done this already or advise of a body shop that like's a challenge!

Tech 1 e30 for me. Especially with the 16 pinas.

I saw a tech-2 kitted car years ago and the rear spoiler was just the lower part of the tech-2 spoiler, looked quite good.

Yeh, you're right of course but I just fancy going that teensy bit more subtle. I have toyed with the Tech 1 spoiler with my Tech 2 body kit, and it will look okay but am also beginning to question the Tech 1 spoiler too as I think that it looks too 'rubbery' - Sacriledge!!! Don't worry, it's a senior moment but I really have an itch that's just got to be scratched.

I removed the top deck of the Mtech 2 spoiler, leaving just the lower part. Obviously its much smaller and looks pretty good, the only down side is the ends are short of the boot lid edge, but its not overly noticeable.

Yeh now you come to mention it, I remember something like the 'lower' section too. Possibly that's what I'm thinking about. I also think that the E46/E39 'skinny' is a viable option though. Would you agree that it's worth trying at least? Do you know someone on here who could do some art-work before I commit real money?

not convinced the modern 'lip' type spiliers will work on an e30. an e30 boot with no spoiler actually has quite a curve too it, unlike the modern cars theyre designed for which have quite a sharp edge. i think it would look like it's sat too far forwards.

i personally would go for either no spoiler at all, or the standard lux / se type colour coded small lip spoiler.

Hey. At least I got you guys thinkin', and we can't be the only ones. I've can see how the 'butt naked' non-spoiler look would work with the 'squarer' Tech 2 lines. Wonderful. The original bootlid lines though, they ARE just so right without any dressing that it's almost a shame to cover them up ... but I feel the old girl needs a little modesty in her advancing years. I'm going to get the skinny and cut it up and move it around a bit, perhaps even shave it in the right places. There has to be a design that becomes as iconic as the OE whale-tail on this E30 masterpiece. To the doubters ... 'the irreplaceable is not irreplaceable'. Stay focussed.

IMO if the car in question is a Sport then I'd prefer to keep the original two piece but would consider an Alpina rear spoiler as an alternative. If just a kitted car then either the Alpina again or just naked if a change was required.

Barry (BSS) Sport wears an Alpina rear
Tom_Mav old grey car wore Tech II with a naked bootlid

Just a warning, if you do remove the tech2 spoiler keep hold of the boot when you open it. Without the weight of the spoiler the boot lid really springs open. Just goes to show the weight of the top deck 8O

You can move the spring/rod onto the next notch so its not so violent when the boot opens.

Cheers for the pics.

I thought there was something that could be done, but wasn't sure. Cheers :)

I've got used to it now, plus the boot lid won't blow shut in strong winds

What about the 318is boot spoiler, that's smaller than a tech2 lower section and good the full width.

I got no spoiler at all on my tech 2 and I think it looks great. Don't take long to remove to have a look and see what you think
