E30 Zone

Anyone soundproofed their whole E30? Any advice on what area's to do?

I'll be removing whats left of the existing sound proofing and then painting everything (which seems pointless as it will be covered again ) before applying new sound proffing.

I looked at Dynamat but it's very expansive! I found this which seems to get good reviews and is considerably cheaper!

Does it make sense to cover the whole floor pan of the car and the bulkhead or is this a waste of time? What about the roof? Inside door panels?

If your not worried about weight then use roof tile matt. Very very good for audio installs.
You only need to cover the centre sections of the panels and not in big sections either.the corners you can use very small amounts of expanding foam. but check which one you get as some are corrosive to metal. when your finished do the tap tap test. Hth

Dunno if I said it on your other thread, but there is someone on the talkaudio forum that sells sound deadening which is a lot cheaper than most and very highly rated!!! Maybe loudboy????

Sorry Zaust missed your post. Roof tile matt? You mean like a felt tipe product? I thought of doing the whole floor but that was before reading you just use it in the centre of panel to stop them resonating.

I found this http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/silent- ... -pack.html which I thuoght was reasonable, looking at reviews it's meant to be decent enough as well and a whole lot cheaper than dynamat!

I like that link, Jozi. The price is reasonable too if it does the job to the same standard (or better) as the existing soundproofing.

I've used Dynamat Superlite on the entire floor plan, does the job quite well though as you said is very expensive. I bought the bulk pack from www.caraudiosecurity.com.

I don't know will 41 sheets do an E30 though, I imagine it would with some left over as well?

I used 2 and 1\4 of the bulk pack, you to have clean the floor properly otherwise it will trap moisture and start to rust over time and be very thorough about it. If you have any leaks when you have the carpet out make sure solve all these before doing this job i.e. the usual E30 leaks - heater valve, bulk head etc.

I've not come across closed cell sound proofing, will need to look into, if you want a picture of what I did I can post this up.

Picture would be great to give me an idea Bit more sound proofing than I though you'd use if you went through 2+ bulk packs! Is it as good as or better than the original sound proofing? No idea about closed cell, it seems to be more of a building product than anything else.

No worries about the floor being clean I'm working from a clean slate with my touring, she's got the full works and will be painted inside and out

I'll post up it tonight, I think its just as good as the original sound proofing.

Here you go, i don't have the completed pics but you'll get the idea. I covered the transmission tunnel and the rear seat area. I double checked on how much I used and it was 1 and 3/4 of a bulk pack, sorry for that.

Nice one thanks Monkey for posting the pics. I've a good idea what has to be done looking at that. I'll need to work out how much I need of it

lol no. The stuff that keeps the tiles on your house. Part lead.

To Monkey27, how effective was the deadening, is there substantial external noise reduction (road noise, wind and engine/tranny noise)?

It works very well, significant reduction in road\wind and tranmission noise. However it will not drown out loud exhaust systems.

It all depends on how and where you apply it. It is recommended to do it on the roof as well, I didn't do this as its all down to what you where you want to reduce the noise in the car.

You can be OTT and do the entire car inc boot area front and rear archs but that is over kill lol
