Rear shelf speakers

Hi guys, I'm looking at putting some speakers in thr rear parcel shelf (car is a 2 dr) and the options I've got are 1) buy some old style speaker box units or 2) get some new speakers and cut the shelf and the metal...
I've looked at the quality of speakers in option 1 and they're not that great and option 2 means compromising with the metal shelf. As I havent seen any other E30's I'm unsure if cutting of the metal shelf is necessary or are there other options around it.
Thanks

p.s. forgot to add,the speakers in option 2 are/will be 6" co-axials

You should be able to get some very nice speakers that fit in the original holes, look at pioneer, they so them. I have some Pioneer TS-E speakers, 2 way 16cm co-ax speakers (150w) although the tweeter sits in a plastic casing above the shelf (they are old but do the job).

i thought all E30 2dr had rear speakers factory fitted across the board. You can take the measurements and cut them our no worries, some people have even fitted 6x9 speakers in the shelf but i wouldn't cut too much out.
