My BBS Rs's the story so far.....up dated wheels fitted!

I brought these just before christmas they were in an ok condition but not a very nice red!

So never having split or built split rims i though this might be a good time to start learning.

Splitting them was not too hard, a million bolts to undo and a few gentle taps they where split.
Image

I put all the bolts in Coca Cola and they came up very nice then put each one in a drill and polished it and yes it takes as long as you think it might...

Sent the centres away for painting in BBS silver. I originally was going to get them powder coated but have never found a coters which doesn't make them look "claggy" and loose some of there definition. So went with paint.

The barrels i just sprayed primer/top/lacer...PoorBoys wheel sealer everything!Image

Next was polishing the lips. It seems strange to sand them polished but thats what you do! Start from about a 80grit and all the way though to 1600 i think i finished on. With what i can only call a spinner i set to work. Each lip took about 2 hours to get a nice shine then finished it off with a bit that goes into a drill (its like a hard fabric) and some polishing paste to get a near mirror.
"The spinner" Not the safest thing i've made but it did the job

I then got new nuts and with some lock tight put them together "dry" with no sealer between the parts some people do some people don't.

Then i went to DIY hell and got some exterior and interior sealer...Yes thats one way to seal a wheel!

I've got the tyres and i'm just waiting on new valves and then Friday the story will be complete...if they fit and if the sealer holds....

They are not perfect but there not to shabby either id say a 8 out of 10

This is not a "how to" just a story of my time spent mainly in a shed with a drill trying to break my arms...

Charlie

Thanks to Rav335uk for your help along the way

All tyres on and not leaking so far and all bolts have stayed tight whoop whoop.

Only issues i have is the rears are just rubbing a little. Ive gently rubber hammered the offending lip...and cracked the paint on the arch...Then i got some heat on it and the passenger side it very nice. The crack is not visible so im not too worried plus its booked into the body shop to get some stone chips done on the rear quarters so i will get it sorted then.

Over all i could not of asked for a better look.

The facts and figures
Fronts BBS RS 071 8x15 et18 tyres size 195/50/15 very nice fit
Rear BBS RS 072 9x15 et3 tyres 195/55/15 Almost perfect just a little arch work required.
Speedo is about 5-7 mph too fast so not too bad.Image

Thank you very much I'm getting there. Just a "few" more little bits and I think i'll be happy. I put some picks up in the german show pic thread with you car in front. think it's one of the wags best shots.

hey charlie, would it be possible for you to upload a photo from the front corner of the car pointing backwards with the front wheels pointing straight please? so i can see how much they poke out? trying to figure out which offsets i need for a flush fit. thanks at the moment im thinking et 20 - 25 for the fronts?

also, the back is sitting pretty darn perfect! and good job with the wheels, i got all that to do with mine now.. fun. haha
