Head Units: When analogue radio is turned off?

Noticed a few of you collect period 80's & 90's car stereos, spending a huge amount of time getting the sound just right and matching components - others I guess just like the look, myself included.

So what are you going to do when analogue is turned off?

Alpine 7909. I like em, always have. I'm not a sound guru and in all honesty I just want what seems to be considered quite decent because it's possible, and if I don't like it it can be ebayed for the price paid. No good if in a few years I can't pick up Radio Cornwall though.

What do you think?

When's this happening? I bought a new Roberts radio alarm clock yesterday, with analogue tuner.

surely this won't be happening for a while, we've been hearing about the analogue tv swichoff for years, and it's still a long way off in a lot of places.

will they even bother getting rid of fm? after all, we still have AM stations!

many headunits still being made and sold at the moment aren't dab compatible, infact i cant remember the last time i saw a dab ready (without add ons) car headunit.

i can imagine their being uproar too, 99% of tvs can be converted to digital with a £20 add on, but there must be many times more radios in use in the country than televisions, and the huge majority of those will have no way to add on an extra tuner.

maybe someone will make a reasonably priced dab fm modulator unit like the ones you can get at the moment for ipods / mp3 players to play through units without an aux input?

It won't bother me an awful lot if im honest. I dont listen to the radio in my car anymore and ive disconnected the power to the aerial because i think it looks gash when its erect :gay: My headunit is DAB compatible so i'll buy the dab unit if i want anything remotely decent (which infact i have been on the look out for a while!).

actually, i'm wondering whether theyve quitely shelved plans to switch it off all together.

i just had a quick look on car audio direct and they only list one DAB headunit, no add on boxes etc, yet i know a pioneer head unit i bought 10 years ago was 'dab ready' with an additional componant :?

So it isn't a big deal then. Even if it is turned off, judging by the above posts we can stick a bit of kit in, find the digital station and connect it up to either the aux or to the antenna wiring.

Yes?

Far too many analogue radio tuners still out there we won’t see the end of analogue radio for quite some time I would say it’s safe for at least another decade.

Besides when and if it does happen we could always use an FM modulator to transfer music to the classic analogue decks.

I’m also a massive fan of high end alpine gear and I’m still on the hunt for a 7909, more than happy with my 7998R at the moment, another legendary alpine deck

I don't listen to radio much, but when I couldn't think of anything for Wor Lass to buy me for a birthday I got her to get me a Sony DAB/MP3 unit.
Does everything I want and more - like I said, I rarely listen to radio.

2015 is what i've heard/read!!
I won't be rushing to change mine to dab!!
By the time it's gonna be switched off, loads of people will have come up with add on boxes, etc.
And pirate radio will, no doubt, stay on air in some places winkeye
