iPod and sound quality

A questioned I've wanted to ask for a while... I've got an Apline Head unit with the iPod adapter which is far better than CD's apart from the fact that the sound I get is different from playing the same tracks through CD. Can anyone suggest why the sound is different through my pod?
Thanks

I had a fiddle with mine and it'll depend on the EQ setting on your ipod and the settings on the amps etc. Have a flick through the various EQ settings on the ipod like I did and you'll find the right one.

I've noticed that too but assumed it was because Alpine spent more money on the iPod function than the CD function. The CD actually doesn't sound quite as good as the iPod on mine nor the ancient Alpine headunit it replaced.

If i put mine through the stereo in doors it comes out with a lot more bass, i guess its due to being set to play through headphones
No amount of tweaking gets it back to how the cd sounds

I've fiddle with the EQ on the pod but that didn't seem to make a great deal of difference. The sound seems to come out a lot more bassy than the origional version on the CD;s that I'm coping from.
I think you can play around with the sound via iTunes so perhaps thats the way around it.

if you are using the Apline unit with the dedicated ipod connector then adjusting the sound control on the ipod itself will have no effect, it is played at a neutral setting irregardles of how the ipod EQ is set - oion the same way afjusting the ipod volume will have no effect
ipods and CD's will have different volume levels so this will effect the balance of the set up, but as mentioned above the quiality of the output is entirly dependant on the CD and programme you used to put the song onto the pod in the first place.

Exactly why i hate mp3's!!!!!! They're rubbish!!!!!
You will only get the same quality as a cd if you copy them in a lossless format such as wav.
Even then, it depends on the player, etc.
It's processed by whatever software you use (even if lossless), then it's processed by the ipod, then it's processed by the h/u.
I assume you've had a play with the eq/bass settings on the h/u itself??

How are you connecting it?
When I connect my iPhone to my Sony Xplod with a 3.5mm cable, the sound is better than on computer and CD honestly.
If there was any interference on the computer, it gets sorted out, and I can change all the setting and get it tweaked just right.
I reccomend you dump the Alpine and get a sony XPLOD.
They're mint!

Sony Xplods are the biggest pile of wank out of all the main stream brands saying any sony unit is better than an Alpine is foolish.
Alpines are the best for ipods they actully worked together with apple to bring out some great units

Seriously?
LOL.
may be true but mine has exceptional quality. When you blast it full it doesn't distort or anything.
GOT BLUETOOTH SO CALLS CAN COME ON SPEAKERS
WIRELESS BLUETOOTH FOR PHONE SONGS
I haven't heard alpines yet.
My uncle used to have a Pioneer in his C2 2.7 cab which flipped down to reveal CD, had tape section too, and a 6 stack CD changer.
Best of all, it had an orange backlight!

hi great forum.
in my opion ipods always have a flat infirior sound compared to cd,s which ever head set or home amp they are played through, its just a toss up between keep changing cds or a less full sound. my 2 cents worth cheers carl.
