I'm having a problem with central locking, the only door i can use to lock all doors, boot is the passenger door,,,, so i'm thinking a remote might be the way to go. can u fit remote central locking to a 87 model or is it an aftermarket thing???

Aftermarket system works ok. Might be worth fixing the original fault - might not. I fitted this one after recommendations on this forum. There are threads on this but if you can't find them, give me a shout. This works well:

Hmmm...that does sound very tempting! Looked through the relevant thread as well and it looks pretty simple to install... does it come with an alarm or is there more that needs buying?
Brianmoooore's little immobiliser trick is neat as well, definitely worth doing by the sound of it.....

On the Rightclick site there's a big sort of 'all in one' pack with alarm, immobiliser, remote engine start, window closure etc. at a pretty decent looking price... has anyone tried this one?

remote engine start sounds amusing but somehow that doesn't sit well with me >.<
thread well and truly hijacked now!
now I'm wondering if I should get some rear powered windows :p....

I've seen a couple of really good threads in tech help on it, and the electrics legend that is brianmoooore seems to think it's ok so I can't see too much going wrong - I'm very sure there are zoners who have successfully installed the kit...
I guess as long as you do it all properly (i.e. strip and solder properly and insulate well) there's not too much that could go wrong....although it's best to have a good long day to iron out all the inevitable problems....

Gar, inorder to get the alarm/remote central locking fitted, you'll need to fix the lock issue as I found out recently.
Have a look in the tech section for a guide on how to trouble shoot the central locking issue. Searh for black/read - author BrianMoooore.
If you need any advise on alarms, the best person on here to speak to is Murphy. His firm are me an all singing all dancng alarm wth black jax, full closure, dual zone proximity sensors, anti tilt etc at a very reasonable price.
Remote start is a no no unless you like falling out with insurance companies.

I've done the red/black conversion. my issue is the lock on drivers side, it keeps slipping and wont lock door or actuate central locking, i can only lock/open the car on passenger side door. so if i just get a remote module connected to the central locking ecu i should be fine, wat ya think?
