Can someone please make it clearer to me the difference between these 2 styles and their rear spoilers.
Pics would be appreciated
What would suit the 318iS in your opinions?

MTEC II ( cheers Adam

)
MTEC I (courtesy of Mason i beleive

)
basically the tech 2 is chunkier, as is the whole appearence of the car, where as a tech 1 (pre facelift *) was a much sleeker look
*pre facelifts have "metal bumpers" and "L-tronic" injection systems for the 2l and 2.5 alike
Post facelifts have "plastic bumpers" and "motronic" injection systems for the comparable engines
the changeover was around 87-88 but both examples can be found earlier and later than that period. Cabrios have generally the pre-facelift shape all through the age range but the Motorsport Cabriolets have the post facelift body and tec2 kit
prefacelift rear arches are different to postfacelift versions

Not entirely sure of that, I think gazza325cab has a Motorsport and that's the pre-facelift rear end but with Tech II kit, I'm probably wrong though.
Re what kit will suit a 318is I can only say Tech II due to the iS only being available post-facelift...

ive seen a mtec 1 cab, and an mtec 1 baur cab, both i think were legit, but im not sure.
a tec 2 on a pre facelift is a custom though, as the bumpers and arches are different and dont fit exactly.
motorsport cabs are only post facel. only afaik

and a mtec 2 on an is would be the Nutz! my favorite kit on any car by miles. subtle but menacing without looking like darth vaders bell end

some of the motorsport cabs had the prefaclift rear lights. they also did not have the numberplate srround as the post facelift do. i say some of the motorsport cabs but i have yet not seen one with postfacelift rearlights, normal cabs did have postfacelift rear.

Nice one guys, its all a bit clearer now.
Thanks for those pics aswell.
Just wondering though, what cars came with the techII kit as standard. If My iS is a facelift E30 how comes it has the techI look??

I disagree about the engines - only m20b20 came with L-tronic, 2.5 were all motronics. not sure about m20b23.
P.S. I have baur cabrio with mTech I and coupe with mtech I and post-facelift rear lights.... actually with mTech I pre facelift rear lights look better, because the lights are thinner (more narrow or what) and it looks more ballanced 2gather. After carrying out a rear lights convertion i realised that i've mistaken a bit...
Here is my mTech I cab

Only the 325i Sport came with the M Tech I (for pre-88 cars) or II (for post-88 cars) kit as standard.
The previous owner of your car could've put the Tech I kit on it?

I'm not sure about the left-hand drive cars, but european cars were also 320's with mTech I. I've had one.
And my baur cabrio ir registered ar 318. Not sure this mTech I is stock...

I got a bit confused over the whole spoiler thing, my car has the back 'lip' spoiler so I assumed it was the techI kit on the car.
My car is on a G plate but I found out it is as standard as it was when first made with a chin front spoiler!

remember that the build spec of the car can have "additional extras" purchased on ordering the car from new so there is a possibility that some cars may feature a mix of kit items dependant on the customer at at hand

Is the lip you have not a lot smaller than the Tech I lip?
If you're not
sure it's bodykitted it could be be as standard with the front and rear lip

Yeh its smaller than the techI lip (masons e30). Ive realised now my iS just has the standard iS stuff on it.

Did
all 320s have the kit as standard though?
The M Tech kit was an option on any E30....

Mtech 2 is the cooler in my opinion and better suited to the iS (as its a facelift car)
However, id spend the Ԛ£400 for the kit on making sure the suspension on the car was in good nick (New bushes/dampers etc)
cos in my opinion, looks are secondary to Safety, handling and performance

reading the posts above i think i know the answer to this but,
i have an 87 conv. (pre face lift obviously).
it will take a lot more work to fit an mtech II kit then I, correct?
