My ice consists of
pioneer 2 pre out head unit
1000watt fusion amp
1000watt fusion subwoofer
450watt wiring

problems
1. i have connected my 12v red wire to the battery but no power is getting through the wire when i test it?

2. the remote line from the head unit to the amp, does this connect to the remote control wire off the head unit or aerial?

3. earthing the amp do i need to earth anything else?

thanks

1. Do you mean the amp power wire? does it have a fuse in it? has the fuse blown?
2. remote switch wire on head unit
3. head unit has an earth wire too

the head unit should be earthed through it's own wiring harness assuming you've used a standard iso connector.

the amp needs to be earthed, and the earth wire should be the same thickness as the power wire, and as short as is practical and attached to a good clean bare metal earth point.

different headunits have different outputs, some will have both a remote switch and an electric aerial feed wire, some will just have one or the other. both do practically the same thing and will send power when the radio is turned on. the current through the wire is pretty small and is only used as a switch to tell the amp to power up. The stereo manual should tell you which wire to use to connect an amp.

if needed, you can connect the amps remote switch wire to an ignition switched supply on the car, this will turn the amp on whenever the ignition is on rather than whenever the stereo is on.

if the wiring all seems to be ok you might need to go into a menu on the headunit and turn the sub outputs on to actually get a sound signal out of the preouts to the amp.
cheers,

harry

ok we went out to the car there, well we gave the amp a better earth and tested at the amp for power and there is across the 12v and earth connectors. Now the remote wire ,we removed it to check for power and it will turn the red amp light on when touched in certain places so we taught it was a connection behind the radio not giving full power. Turns out the old earth was just sitting there and not connected so we connected that. Then we looked for a better power source for the remote wire and we left it at that , what colour is the main power into the radio do you know? were stumped at why it wont kick into life, oh so i actually have to go into menu and turn on the sub pre outs? what would it say in the menu? yes the power line has a fuse in it 40 amp.

but surely the amp lights should come without having to go into the menu?

Have you checked the fuses on the amp?

the amp should still turn on if it has power and an input on the remote wire. you might need to turn the preouts on to get sound out of it. it varies from system to system. read the manual, or download one if you don't have one. if a stereo has pre-outs there's usually an option to turn the subwoofer on / off.

you can connect the amp remote directly to 12v to test the amp, but don't leave it like that or the amp will be on 24/7 and kill the battery.

radios usually have two power wires. a permanent 12v (usually red) and an ignition switched 12v, usually yellow.
cheers,

harry

we got it going lads, it was a bad 12v connection. I find the subwoofer very boomy off beat compared to when i had it in the house. Ill have to adjust the amp . Rear speakers arent working off the amp so thats the next problem and it may be driaining the battery , ill find out later haha
