Don't you just need to use plastic primer?

i don't know smithy - never sprayed before.
right now i have:
2 pac primer (3:1 primer:hardener)
base coat
hardener (standard hardener)
laquer
have a small compressor and spray gun, was going to give 2 or 3 coats of primer - then 2 base coats - then 2 laquer (with some base coat mixed in maybe 20% as the laquer can be hard to work with for amateurs.
i am not sure how much and where to use the hardener.
my skirts are new from bmw and are a kind of gel black material - the bumpers are standard plastic black that i have sanded down past the laquer to the old paint and primer
i thought the 2pac primer would bondto the gel finish and old bumpers no hassle but maybe I am wrong? my worried was about the flex that is in plastic that causes the paint to crack/split etc?
help?!

All flexible parts, so usually plastic parts like bumpers and skirts etc, need a 'plastisizer' additive to allow the paint to flex under load or a prang thereby not cracking.

as mr munch says you add a plasticiser (i think we use a s not z in this part of the world) but i am not sure about 2 pac paint.
one thing you do need to be careful of with a small compressor is a build up of water in the tank. most have a release valve to remove the water (caused by condensation due to the higher pressure in the tank) and pro spray set ups will have a drier in the line.
there is no reason that lacqure is any different then base coat, same technique same priciple - but i have only sprayed one car
i would imagine stuff from BM will be ready to paint - degrease and go, your old bits will need sanding to allow the new paint to key to the surface.
good luck

you really should use plastic primer wen spraying any type of plastic or fibreglass. if u get a stone chip on it a powerhose could just lift huge patches of paint and lacquer off the bumper wen u are washing it.
the aerosol can is very good and its wot i use. u should spray on a thin coat of it on and let it dry before primer and another bit if u rub through the 2pac primer wen ur doin ur paint prep.
its 5mins work which mite save u doing the whole process again in a few months at extra cost.

Two pack paint is flexible anyway, use a 'adhesion promoter' which is a plastic primer really first.
I would put a light even coat on the surfaces, I'd use Upol Grip 4 adhesion promoter which comes in aerosol form.
Then a couple of light coats of the high build primer.
Basecoat is 3:1 - No additive required.
Clear 3:1 + 10 % Thinner (Depending on brands?)
Get a mild thinner and wipe over the skirts as these will have releasing agents on them, prep both items with 500 dry paper, moving onto 1000 wetordry.
What colour are they going to be, you really dont want to be mixing colour and clear coat with metallics
OBs

Just done all the side strips and bumper inserts satin black. (waiting for the rain to stop to do the skirts)
Couldn't be arsed to fire up the compressor, mix paints etc.
So i bought a a tin of 'plastic primer' aerosol, and 'satin black' aerosol.
Cleaned up all the plastic parts, rubbed them up with a scotch pad for a decent key, sprayed up nicely and refitted (after cleaning underneath)
Looks good at the moment, We'll have to wait and see how it looks in 3 months time before i pass judgment though.
