Any 323i Turbos?????????

Hi Guys

Ive got an 83 323i and I would like to turbo it.

I already have a T3/T4 turbo.

I was wondering if this conversion has been done before as Ive searched the forums and have come up empty handed. :wtf:

I was going to throw in 325 running gear but its just too cumbersome so I want to work with what I have right now.

I would appreciate any feedback please as I need to begin this project.

One zoner told me that the ecu would give me problems with re mapping, fueling etc. I was wondering if I added another fuel pump whether this would make a difference?????

Cheers Guys
:shoot1:

with the right manifold, intercooler you can have low boost application which means major ecu mapping is not needed

there a few m20 turbos here ( m20 being the small 6 cylider engine from 2.0 - 2.7)

Thanks Kos

So what type of boost will i be able to run and what type of power will I make.

Also would major mapping be a problem or can I or is there another way to boost higher?

Finally what manifold and intercooler should i look for.

Much appreciated mate

Cheers :|

you can buy manifolds from america , finland, sweeden. lots available

intercooler choice is up to you. loys can be used, just depands how and where you want it mounted.

boost............... say 5 psi, if it was a 325i you can safely run 7 psi as management is easy to play with on them. not too clued up on 323i injection set ups. i do know thet the dizzy is in th block to ignition timend is easily adjusted to suit the application. it is in e21's but not sure with 323i e30 though

Thank you stacks mate.

Really appreciate it.

If anyone knows more about the injection setup on a 323i E30 and how to gain a maximum reliable boost please let me know. Also what kind of power i would be able to make please.

Cheers Kos :)

200 bhp with similar torque

a friends 2.5 we had running 250 bhp reliably and it has been for 4 years, just 1 head gasket failure. changint your head gasket for a new OE bmw one with NON stretch head bolts is a good idea as well

Hi, isTURBO

Your engine have a high compr. ratio of 9.8:1
With no internal modifications only low boost is possible.
Mine is 320i, was with the same c.r., and blowed headgasket at 7 psi. So you try less in its stock form... :D
If you wanna 1 bar or so, better go standalone, MS and his brothers IMO.

Thanks Guys

Any ideas on what size and make of pistons to go for as I will be removing the head so I felt i might as well do a piston change as well.

Getting exciting now as I will be looking for the manifold. I know Kos said USA, Finland , Sweeden etc but anyone has any favourites i could look at especially in terms of reliability.

Saw a branch type steel manifold from USA on e bay that looked good, not sure though.

Once again cheers guys for the info :D

I've got a 2.3 lump similar to yours but the earlier version in my E21 323. I've got Audi 200 Turbo Pistons with some custom machining done in it. I think these may work in your engine, depending on the Compression Ratio you want to run.

Thanks for that.

Im thinking of slapping the turbo on asap with the oversized gasket to lower the comp. :shoot1:

Found the manifold etc.

Will boost low and when the gasket goes remove the head and then change the pistons, flow the head etc.

Looking for an initial 200 plus BHP but will push for more when I do the motor up or alternatively drop in a 3.5 turbo setup.

Hoping to set up a thread with the mod for guys for future ref.

Cheers.

Thanks for that snoops.

Just come from Ants place and Ive seen first hand the limitations esp space taken up by the LHD one
