Put a larger engine than the one that the car is designed for in a (E46)?
Just I have just got a E46 with the engine that is knackerd its a 325ise saloon, I was wondering if it would be possible to put in a 330i or 328 engine in and if so whether its worth the hassle if its hard to do
Cheers in advance
Dan

I'd just find another 2.5 engine of the same type to put in. Engine swaps in modern cars are a big headache unless you're a wiring genius... all the engines that are more interesting than the one you're replacing have complex immobiliser electronics.

There is no different wiring to a E46 2.5 and 3.0
but you do need another ecu, possibly ews and all that stuff and have it adjusted to the car it self,
The conversion it self is just like replacing the engine,
*One quick note, you might be able to have the 2.5 ecu flashed with a 3.0 program.
That should sort things out pretty easily.

^ Agreed
M54 will interchange quite ahhpily like for like, or indeed 2.5 for 3.0
reflash the ECU as per Gunni's post and jobs jobbed.

hi i am new to the zone but you will be hearing some strange things coming from this man.my belief is strong on individuality. if you want a bigger engine think what you need go and get and fit it. if everyone said no to all the mods we have seen where would we be today, probably behind a poxy reno or ford. i say go for it
