hi guys..............
want to fit a new exhaust to my 318i e30 touring, seen a nice scorpion half system and wanted to know about the CAT. " do you still need it on a 93' 318i L reg model???? obviously for m.o.t. reasons etc but is there a need at all, by law.need to find out!!! what systems have you guys fitted, wot are good???
also, what is the best induction kit available for the above model, would it "honestly"make much difference in performance, i'm not looking to thrash the balls of my car, just a wee bit extra power and grunt when needed!!!!
my car is up for M.O.T. next month so i'll be wanting to fit the parts straight away or soon after that, need to shop around with your much needed advice............. give it to me straight boyz n' girls!!! " i'm on a tuning mission" cheers

not much to gain on those engines. induction kit won't do jack for performance.

well you will get more power from a free flowing exhaust (de-cat) but the law dont like that.
i know a guy who has a subaru and he has a straight through section that he can swap to the cat when its mot time.
but thats not advice from me i was just saying i know a guy.......
the standard air box is better than a cone but the cone sounds better.
you could always get a zone chip? thats good fun

The m40 engine is good for using as a paperweight,or boat anchor!Im ditching mine and replacing it with a newer 6 cylinder lump.An exhuast, chip and filter wont make much difference at all on the 318i

Sorry to argue here

but I also have 318i touring and recently fitted an Apiro universal cone filter and it made a hell of a difference, much better power all the way round the revs. my old 'original' air filter in box was almost new so it couldn't have neen down to it being clogged

Forget big exhausts, they add no power at all, same to be said for all the "induction kits", a decent A-tech chip for the M40B18 and she'll be more drivavble than you'd give credit for, gains approx 6hp, almost 13 lbs/ft of torque too.
not to be sneezed at.
All the advice is good though, little to be had from the unloved M40 other than a rechip and decap pipe, I'd call it a day there and enjoy.
Turbo, well thats another kettle of fish

M50B25 performance and 35 mpg, suits you !
