Loving boost!

Got me my first scooby scalp last night, on the way home from work a local in his plastic kitted jap thing came riding my bumper in traffic, had to wait for the road to clear before going for it, then the pug 206 didn't get out of the way so I had to come off the gas and lost my head of steam, scooby didn't seem to slow so as soon as the pug was gone I gave it some, scooby kept a two car lengths back till I hit 90 then just went backwards and by the time I hit 1xx he was atleast 10 cars back.
Looking at my datalogs I maxxed at 9.2psi, was running 11.5/12.1 afrs and a very conservative 10/11 degrees of timing, IAT's touched 43.9'c and MAT stayed around the 75'c, so there's much much more to come!
I did manage to keep the 3rd and 4th gear pulls at WOT, so I know I'm safe to give it some now.
I'm gonna try some timing increases tonight and also wind some fuel out, hopefully I can pick up another 30/50bhp fine tuning it, the timing is very very safe.
Overall the cars a monster and I love it, can be driven off boost all day and in the higher gears you can get boost from 2k! not much but some.
Bring on the POD!!!!

See my thread in this very section! Trying to make my mind up... M30's looking most likely for the moment though, & we all know that FI works on those too

Oh God, I'd pay to see that guy's face as he was thrashed by a 20 year old "duffers car"

Priceless.
9.2 PSI? That seems remarkably gentle if you're beating scoobies! Excellent

I have resisted adding my 2p as I'm very very biased
Toby's M30 turbo is mind blowing, he'll stuff me at the mo easy, I need a bar to keep up with him....hint hint

And some people find computers confusing...

This is what computer geek-speak must sound like to an outsider!
"Looking at my datalogs 'can't-understand-a-word-you're-saying'

, so there's much much more to come!"
This is why some of us faint at the sight of a spanner, paying other people to fix our cars. This is why some of us are employed to wade through 1's and 0's so others don't have to.

Please do - everything's very welcome, even Ant & he's rather more biased than you!

Will resist going even further off topic here though.
I need MS in my life - awesome stuff

I would have too but he was too far away
My wastegate is set to 8.75psi or 0.6bar BUT you can squeeze a little more as the turbo is so big it will over power it slightly, I've had 9.7psi recently but the norm is about 8.8.
What waits beyond 15psi is a sleeping monster, I can't explain what happens but when you hit the sweet spot the power comes in like a 500bhp NOS shot!
at the mo I'm barely tickleing it

Awesome news Mark, always a laugh to see 'fast' cars getting left behind
Would say though that having the timing too far retarded is just as dangerous as too advanced. You don't want the heads falling off your exhaust valves and wrecking the engine

I'm busy working on finding out "what" levels are safe and which are best for power, with the lower C/R I should be able to run much more but I'm a little unsure so I've stayed in the middle area.
Looking at some timing maps I'm quite aggresive but then others show me to be very retarded ( the ignition that is

)
So I guess I'll have to get the DET cans out and go play
I did try add 2 degress across the whole map but that caused hesitations and as I was on the way to work I didn't have time to play and sort it. I know I can add in a few degrees top end but I'll need some time to sort that properly, a busy A road @ 0800hrs isn't ideal really.
Thanks, Mark.

As soon as the timing is sorted I'll pop to LPS, they're only 15 miles away and I could pop there after work on my way home.
Until then it's all arse dyno power!
Ant said your cars a weapon now, hows it feel?
Mark.

that's going to go really well with longer gears and more boost Mark, mine is cracking with the 3.08 diff, really long legged
i don't think you're that far behind me at the moment either

Mark,
As i said on the phone, pop over one evening or if you pop up on a sat i can bolt my det cans to it and help you with the ignition timing.
If its a sat also there is a fair chance that the GT30'd monster i have been working on for a while will be there and you can have a passenger ride.
Doug.

Toby,
Can you send me your MSQ?
I'd like to see where your timing is set, mines a little low I think but having raised it slightly I'm tickling det, so I'm keen to see what a stock C/R needs timing wise.
Thanks, Mark.

Yes I was!
I was smiling even more when I got home and checked the datalogs, wasn't even half the boost I plan to run
More boost, bigger IC, better clutch then the POD!
Mark.

Toby,
Got it mate, thanks!
You're on either 026h or 021V but def not 029q2!
As you have smaller injectors and a higher fuel pressure your map looks weird but you sparks maps is usefull.
I still don't understand why I'm able to run on half the advance in some places, really must get my sparks sorted now, I wonder how much more power there is too find!
Thanks again, Mark.

Fozzy, what sort of boost are you planning on running?
How much can these little m20's take?

i think 350bhp is max on standard internals...

... mines only 6.5psi on a small T3 and i was neck an neck with a E46 M3 today... was well chuffed

they're quite quick in 3.2 S spec though
mine was a match for my mates 3.2 with my standard engine, up to 120 where aerodynamics took over and he killed me

Yeah, the 'S' version is still a bit of a worry.
My old RX7 used to deal with those though!
A 335i turbo should be well into 911 territory!?

your old RX7 was bloody nice, remember the pics, i've always wanted one of those in that shape
i think i'm somewhere around 996 carrera territory at present
