Turbo Oil Feeds

Greetings fellow turbo-nutters
So far the best idea I've come up with for an oil feed for my turbos is to drill a feed for them in the oil filter adaptor or make up a remote housing and do a similar thing, only further away from the block.
What's everyone else done?
I'm scared of starving a bearing or something!

i'm not to sure but some one said they had used some sort of T-peice that screewed into the block where the oil pressure sensor goes,if that makes any sense ?

Alex,
As andy said pretty much, we've got a T-piece made up to screw into the oil pressure switch and feed off that via a braided hose to the turbo. Ant has all the kit at his so I can't get you a piccie till 3rd May
I have a piccie of the oil return, but the feed won't go on till fitting day.
HTH,
Mark.

mine's going on the same, braided hose to turbo.

What about oil pump ? Does the oil feeds to turbo affect oil pressure ?

Hokey doke, the oil pressure switch is the thing that screws upwards into the block under the oil filter isn't it?
Thinking about it, unless there's absolutely no restriction to oil flow through the turbos, and the pump can't keep up, the oil pressure should still be taken care of by the pressure releif valve.

this is what i did.
think its self explanatory
I ran a piece of brake pipe up for turbo .
soz for drawing .I can take a pic if u want
Dean
One oil return pipe piccie....:D

Sorry it's such a crappy pic, but it's PITA trying to get a good pic. It's mounted on the oil filter side, just a few inchs along towards the front end.
It's a landrover oil return pipe, an excellent idea, Cheers Ant

Oh forking excellent idea!
Don't suppose you've got a part number for those have you?
Do you reckon there's room for two of those on the sump?
Cheers!

are we thinking the same thing why you would need 2 of them?

Yes, yes we are
They're only little though, both from a Skyline GTR

Alex,
Ant sourced this for me, so I couldn't even tell you model of landrover it is from mate, he's back 3rd of may.
The actual pipe bit has been cut down quite a bit, I think it was about 6 inchs long before. Only thing I can think of is to send that pic to someone at landrover and ask if they can identify it, but I'll ask Ant when he's back for sure.
And I think there is plenty of room for more, some have fitted the returns to the front of the sump and that has a larger area to tap into. You have fins on the sides that mean you have only a few areas big enough to fit it. But 2 two would fit easy.
HTH,
Mark.

What would be the result if you left the oil pressure switch out, do you get a warning lamp on the dash or are there more serious consequences of doing this. I'm currently trying to fabricate a t-piece out of gas and water connectors but its proving difficult.
As for the return, just an idea, and i'm waiting for someone to tell me NO, but what about retuning to the dipstick as i don't think that, that is under pressure?? And if you do it to the bottom of the dipstick bit its under the level of the turbo.

wouldn't that be very dumb (no offence) to leave the oil presure sensor out? what if by some reson you lose your presure you can't see it and you turbo get ruined and probably also the rest of your engine

No offence taken this would be a tempory measure only, not permanent. This would be to see if the whole thing worked before i start wasting hours on a t piece. So do you know if it will put the car in "limp hom mode" or simply do nothing apart from not tell me if the oil pressure is low??

i don't know but i have never seen a car having problems when the oil presure is low (exept for a ruined engine but you get the point).
i think your ecu has nothing to do with the oil presure switch I think it's only connected to the light in your instrument cluster.
I'm sure somebody can tell more about it or correct me if i'm wrong

Yeah think the oil light would be permanently on.
Wouldn't do it myself I must admit but then I'm a coward!
For my money, I'm fitting an oil pressure gauge just so I can keep an eye on things.

I wouldn't blame you for not trying it, what do you reckon to the oil return idea?? I might invest in an oil pressure guage at some point- i think it would be wise.
Are you going to have to split the oil feed in half for your turbos? If so does that mean two oil pressure sensors

eeek. Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£ mounting up.

The dipstick's on the inlet side of the block isn't it (been ages since my engine was actually in the car

)
Only problem I can see with that is getting enough fall on the return pipe as it's only gravity that pulls the oil back.
I will have to split the oil feed but I reckon that an arrangement similar to the block o' metal piccied above only with two tappings should do the trick. Should mean I can keep the one pressure switch and also provide a tapping for the oil pressure gauge

Yep fall is the right sort of word to describe that, as its almost a sideways motion more than a vertical motion. Perhaps i need to do some tests with a pipe, and pouring oil down it, seeing the difference in flow rates between the two. Thats something for the weekend i think.
