Flow rates for various engines and flow maps

Just a thought as we've got this forced induction section that if we can go through and work out the air consumption for the various engines available in the E30, it might help people select the correct superchargers / turbochargers for what they want?

Also, if we could gather any flow maps for various blowers, again it all helps anyone trying to put a system together.

To work out the volume flow rates we need to know the volumetric efficiencies of the various engines so if anyone can help out here, or if we can agree on some plausible ballpark figures :)

Whadda people think?

dont know about the m20, but iirc the 'ideal' air to fuel ratio for an engine is circa 14.7:1

so if you can figure out the volume of the combustion chamber you can fgure out how much air you need....

Not quite that simple unfortunately.

For example, at 62xxrpm, the E36M3 goes over 100% volumetric efficiency to 102%VE which means that every engine cycle is consumes 3265.02cc of air and not just the 3201cc it displaces.

All engines have a VE, most are below 100% but by how much varies from design to design :(

think theres some useful stuff on these 2

I trawled through a load of stuff before my turbo install..
