318i turbo cab (update)

just a little update for those intrested

the turbo I had on the car went a little while back
blew an oil seal so oil was seeping onto the
compressor housing from underneath
so picked up another second hand unit from a volvo breakers
in margate £50 with all the oil and water pipes and connectors
(result)

had a misfire just before christmas
turned out to be a rubbing ht lead
so the spark was jumping out of the
lead before making it to the plug
thats now sorted.

other than that totally problem free motoring
so the concept has been proven.

had some fun along the way
left a e36 325i 2door for dead on the north circular from a set of lights
also had a play with some lesser mortals in my area
and won

so where are we at now
well this morning I won the bidding for an intercooler on ebay
so roll on stage 2

once stage 2 is done it will go on the rollers to
get power/torque figures

Definatly an m40 this one.

Good to hear that it is getting even more fettling done to it. Does this mean you can up the boost some more then Malcom/Ant with the intercooler present?

What Intercooler is it, volvo/saab one?

definately a manual conversion coming soon
just so the boost is more useable.

e30alex it is an M40
I already have 99% of the parts I need for the conversion
thanks for the heads up.

Jon
the intercooler is from a renault 5 gt
so nice and compact
and I think a figure discussed was 10psi once the I/C is on

here are a couple of pics
will get some up to date pics and vid soon

custom manifold

cheers Chris
the first turbo was unknown to us
so we never knew what milage it had done
but I got a result with the second one so I am happy

another thing I just wanted to add
for the doubters out there
or mis-informed
megasquirt never needed to be touched for the winter
it ran perfectly just like in the warmer weather

in the time I have had it
its been mapped twice
1st time was the initial map
and the second was because of a flat spot I found
other than that its been perfect

I have had the pleasure of going out in this, Must say I was really impressed.

I have made these comments before but there is no harm in reiterating them, This feels like a factory conversion from the passenger seat. Very smooth and progressive, nice amount of poke and urgency. The general quality of the work done is to a very high standard.

Ant is most definitely the man

No it's always said in jest, I am a fan of the torque of a 6 pot but can see the merits of a 4 pot.

Malc's is a good example too.
