Exhaust flange Group Buy. READ PLEASE GBers

Hello!

I'm at it again making bits for me car and trying to drag others down with me so.....

Is anyone interested in some exhaust flanges for the M20 2.5?

The drawing's available from my website (see below) so you can see what you'd be getting.

Would need to get prices as and when I know how many (if any) people are interested but as a very rough guide, I had three sets made up last time which brought them down to £21 each or £42 for an engine set.

Other odds and sods I need to get priced are T3 pattern turbo flanges which seem to cover most bases including the mighty Holsets I believe, although correct me if I'm wrong.

Everything will be 304 grade stainless.

Cheers!

Alex

holsets go T4 somewhere around 16cm^2 HX40 size turbines, im sue there is a drawing on T3flanges.com for a combined T3 and T4 flange, might be worth checking that out

i have a E30 M3 exhaust system to downpipe flange drawn up and also individual M30 exhaust manifold flanges that i put on CAD for toby if you can bulk an order up with assorted bits? that's if anyone is interested? :D

Boo, no dims on that T3/T4 adaptor, although I guess it'd need to have some pipe in between two flanges anyway?

I'll knock up a dimensioned drawing of the T3 flange people linked to the other day and send it over if you can PM me your e-mail addy Glenn?

If people do want the M30 flanges, I'm quite happy to put them through on the same order, but from my dealings in the past with having flanges and the like cut, you get a discount for having lots of one spec of the same profile done rather than just the order value :(

Hokey dokey, Here's the turbo flanges I'm planning on having done.

EDIT> Damn automatic resizing, follow this link http://www.stuartmcguire.co.uk/airin/T3_flange.gif

Guess thinks like Holsets would be better off with the split pulse type? Don't suppose anyone with a holset kicking about could confirm the stud spacings could they?

Cheers!

Alex & dudes

Not butting in on anything here, but just got talking to a guy on one of the soarer forums who has a CNC laser and can do upto 10mm thick mild or stainless.

If that's any help?

oh and he's just told me he has access to a water jet cutter which can do upto 25mm thick!

they make gaskets for oil refineries apparently

water jet cutting is nice and the flanges will be nice and flat too (until you weld them!!!)

my M3 exhaust flange was made this way

Seemed to get less distortion with the laser cut flanges I had done for Brown than the water cut ones I had done for the Mi16, although God knows why.

That is very interesting indeed Beemerlad!

Will tap you up for contact details when everything's finalised, cheers!

now that's a toy!!!!! engineering porn! winkeye

waterjet shouldn't distort as there's no (or very litttle) heat involved. they use it for cutting plastics and wood etc with no burning!

Re:

by Turbo-Brown
Shite, you could live in that!

Both sets of flanges got to me nice and straight, it was when I welded stuff to them that the water cut one seemed to bend a lot more :(

that may be down the the level of residual stress in the source material. some stress relieving may happen during the heating involved in laser cutting?

my flange stayed very true during welding. thicker material will help though, as will welding in stages and from several start points to keep the head down and heat soak nice and even.

I have the bloke's email details saved on my laptop at home, so PM me Alex when you are ready.

Just so you can get a feel for prices etc I asked him for a price on 5 x those T3 flanges done in 10mm T403.

He said the max he can go to on laser cutting is 12mm as the finish isn't so good thereafter. Will let you know when he gives me a price.

Happy to help

i got someone to skim my manifold for £30 to get it dead flat

Re:

by Turbo-Brown
I ended up skimming the turbo ends of my manifolds as I didn't want any gaskets in there, but the cylinder head ends were fine as I clamped them firmly to a 3/4" thick plate of steel and clamped that to a 60x40x3RHS for good measure too :)

Mmmm, heath robinson! Is there anything you can't do with a lathe? :D

OK the bloke has just got back to me about the T3 flanges.

I asked him to price 5 of the flanges as per your CNC diagrams alex, 10mm thick.

Stainless is £40 a pop, mild steel is £10 a pop.

That any good?

Cool, will send out an enquiry to the couple of firms I've used in the past and we can compare notes :D
