M60/62 V8 will swop in no problemo, wiring as always will be the biggest nightmare.
V12 also can be squeezed into the e30 bay.
I've measured a 572 cu/in big block, that will fit too
Let us know what you decide dude

M52B28, fitted with a 2.5 inlet manifold and appropriate ECU.

And the brake servo clearance.
M52B28 is from the E36 328i and the 2.5 bits Brian mentions are from the M50B25 - E36 325i/E34 525i.

An m60 is lighter than an m30.

Whether a M60 swap is easy depends on your definition of easy - I don't think it's quite the word I would use.
The M52B28 isn't exactly a straight swap either, but the engine and box will sit straight into an E30 by only using a selection of standard BMW parts from various models.
The exhaust manifold will have to be custom made or modified fairly easily from the standard 2.8 manifold, and a custom front part of the rest of the exhaust will be needed.
The other problem concerns the M50/52 inlet manifold fouling the brake servo. There are various well documented means of solving this problem.
If you do a forum search you'll find loads of information on this swap. M50 swap involves the same problems as the M52, and for practical purposes is the same job.

Send a PM to Ant, when he's not turboing e30's he's swapping in bigger engines!
Glen is also a transplant king but he's in Wales somewhere

It would definitely be more worth while getting the 4.0 (or the 4.4

) but if the 3.0 V8 can be got for 100 notes, once its fitted, changing to the 4.0 would only be an engine swap.
$100 isnt a lot for those superb V8 noises and then once a 4.0 can be found, fitting it will be simple as all the hard work has been done.
