M50 dyno run

Got my car on the rollers this morning and was quite impressed with the results
215 Hp @ 6000 RPM
194 Lbs/ft Torque @ 5650 RPM
Not bad considering it left the factory 15 years ago with an expected 192 Hp and 181 Lbs/ft Torque
Mods so far- no cats, Scorpion middle and back box, no viscous, M20 flywheel and a Viper 2 chip

RESPECT!
I need to get my unichip sorted!

Like those numbers and if your car pulls from 20mph in 5th gear the way mine (M50 Tourer) does, it's even more impressive!
Just need to chase Ant up about fitting my Megasquirt.

Yeah, it does pull well at low speed in fifth
Still needs another gear though,
Next plan is a 2.8 bottom end

Thats a nice torque curve, or lack of !!

Respect Dan,dont ya just love it
Got to say, after driving my iS for the last 12 months,2nd and 3rd gear in an M50 is mental fun(esp with my auto diff)1

Thats what a torque curve should look like

Yep, you gotta love the graph
Much nicer than other printouts ive seen
Apparantly if I can get some better breathing it will make those curves a lot smoother.
And who said an M50 conversion was a waste of time

Hmm interesting those plots dont seem to intersect eachother at the expected place.
Me dont think you have 215bhp Sorry

Only just noticed that, it is wierd, should be a few thousand RPM higher....

What does it matter? Ive seen plenty of graphs where the cross over ranges from 3 to 6k
Re:

by kam-325i
If the graph is showing Lbs/Ft and Bhp, then it should cross at 5252rpm
Horsepower = Torque x rpm / 5252.
Maybe its a Metric graph in Kw or Ps......
Re:

ang on.........
Not on the same axis...........so it will be all skew wiff.........

Yeah, look at the values, theyre not on the same lines
200 Hp is much higher than 200 Lbs/ft
Maybe I DO have 215 Hp

Can it be?

Figures fit my arithmetic OK.
185 X 6050 / 5252 = 213

Brian where are you getting those numbers from?

andrew
torque figure x rpm / 5252 = power
- look at the torque figure on its scale on the y axis to the right, as mentioned the scales of the y axis are different for torque and power which is why its looks wrong.

Yes i know the formular, but where is Brian getting the torque figure and the rpm from that graph to get 213bhp?
Andrew

he is getting rpm figure from where peak power is show on the graph, and then finding roughly what the tourque value is at that RPM point i think, Andrew
Re:

peak power appox 6050rpm
torque @ 6050rpm = 185lf/ft approx.
Looks like where Brian got his figures...

Mark why would he need to look at
the graph when the peak power and the
RPM is shown in the first post?
Can you see what im getting at?
209bhp if hes very lucky!

The power bar goes way above 210hp, if the machine does lie like you keep insinuating then how can you work out 209? Surley if its wrong then you have no figures to work off at all.
What is the problem here?

Cheers Twiggy
Maybe I should put up a poll,
Option 1 - Real printout?
Option 2 - Photoshop printout?

Exactly what I've been thinking all along.
Figures add up for any point on the chart.

Hang on Brian, dont forget, this conversion hasnt had "proper money" spent on it
Maybe thats why its so hard to belive

Don't forget, I'm the one who paid Ԛ£60 for my last M50B25 vanos engine and box, complete with the rest of the front of the E36 it came from! Going into a mint Ԛ£170-00 tourer.

209 BHP is a still a great achivement for a pretty standard M50B25 (not totally sure what Dan has done to it)
