How do you store an engine.. It's got the flywheel, crank and water pump still attached. Will the crank be damaged if layed on it's non existent sump for too long? or are they pretty hardy items? (this has no head, no pistons, just block, crank and pump)

Damn they are heavy.. can you store it on the flywheel?? Only space I had for it and trying to lift it out of the touring on my own.. was a bitch. Thank goodness for floor jacks!!

Ive seen people just lay them on an old tire and call it a day. why not try that? I think for $50 you can get an el cheapo engine stand. Then again, I have seen them just lying on their sides... I wouldnt lay it down if it didnt have the sump but i do know the flywheels are fairly stable.

Go with the tire.

And keep oiling the bores and any surface that needs to stay free of rust every so often, can save a lot of trouble later when it comes to be used!

I sprayed cooking oil into the bores of engines I've stored before, it goes sticky and stays there preventing corrosion.

It was a brainwave I had a while back.

Bet its gonna stink when I start it. Should clean it when its removed, its a good solvent for petrochemicals too.

i stored my cossie engine in my damp garage for over 18 months with no problems.it was compete though .id taped up all the open pipe ends and manually turned the crank pulley every so often to stop things seizing.my engine took 4 of us to shift it so once it was dropped on the floor that was it.id try to sit yours on blocks of wood instead of directly on the floor though
