MegaSquirt

Hello there guy's I've been doing a bit of reading over the passed few days about MegaSquirt and I'm sold lol

Not running a turbo (maybe in time) but I converted to 2.7 not long ago.

I was wondering if you's could recommend what setup to go for?

What's the best MegaSquirt system to get, Version I or II? PCB2.2 or 3.0?

Thanks

V3.0 PCB with the MS1 processor running MSnS-E code, best all rounder,

MS2 has better PWM resoloution but only really needed for massive fuel injectors, in the hope of getting idle

If and when the MS2 code catches up with -Extra, you can pug the revised CPU into your existing setup, reflash the firmware and away you go.

use some M30 yellows with the 2.7, stock are maxed out (85%)@ wot using MS on the stroker engine

Cheers for the info, so MegaSquirt I w/PCB3.0 it is then 8)

Is it worth while getting the relay board to help keep things more tidy and organized under the hood or just a waste of money?

I know I'll need a new TPS but is there any other sensors or parts need to fit MegaSquirt?

Cheers guys

no need for the relay board dude, you already have a main DME relay to power the fuel rail up, and the fuel pump relay can be re-used too

for a TPS, either use an M50 unit, or get one from RS online, about £22 inc the plugs required

you'll need either the MS specific IAT, or use any NTC sensor and easy therm it.

the stock coolant temp sensor is fine with MS

HTH- again

cheers again man

i see in your sig you supply and fit MegaSquirt, could you email or PM me a price just for the unit as i'm from Northern Ireland and would be a bit hard for you to fit lol

cheers

is MegaSquirt hard to install into the car? what happens with the old ECU?

with fitting MegaSquirt i take it i can dump the AFM?

Cheers

yeah old ecu gets dumped with afm, you can reuse the old loom or make a new one, i think you install the new ECU where old one was

AFM goes in the skip, as does the ICV and all related motronic gumph

the MS ecu can be spliced into the stock ECU harness without much hassle, keeps the engine bay tidy and assures the connection get the best weather protection.... ie a roof and floor :D

TBH it may seem a bit daunting, but anyone who's completed a moderate ICE install shoul have no issues at all

A kit from me includes:

MS V3
Full Db37 and 1.5 metres wirning harness
TPS
IAT
Tuning cable
Basemap for m40/m20/m30 or turbo application
Full aftersales support via email/phone

all units tested for 72 hours , 1 year guarantee on hardware ( unless you short it out that is !! )

All for £487.90 inc the VAT,

Liam 12 is i your area ish, he's starting his MS install in the next few weeks. Might be able to alay any fears you might have

HTH

Hell I did it and I failed every electronics/electrical exam I ever took :D

I'm even going to upgrade to a V3 which I bought in kit form and I have to build it!

Ants kit is spot on and he's covered all the bases, makes it as easy at will ever be to install and get working.

Mark.

P.s. He's also got a sexy phone voice too

I am looking at my box of megasquirt goodies as we speak...
i am still well stuck in to the manual though (get it from msefi.com and read it till you know it inside out!)
the engine is currently being installed - i will do the first 1500 miles on a moronic chip then switch over to MS in late september - hopefuly in time for that dyno day i was asking you about
would be nice to hear of another 2.7 e30 on the 'Island' that was running MS.
Let me know if you decide to go ahead

Oh and i got mine from Ant and he was ace to deal with alltogether.

Just a matter of knowing what wire goes where really

Silly question now lol

With taking the old ECU out how will that affect the check control panel, Clocks (Temp, RPM etc)? They still work ok?

Was thinking about building the kit up myself, you don't sell unassembled kits? Or could you tell me the best place to get an unassembled kit?

Yes I agree that Ant is the man alright he's helped me out with a few chips in the passed and while building my 2.7 up

Cheers

for a DIY kit, contact Bill Shurvington, he's UK based, check on MSEFI forum, he's an approved supplier so no issues at all, he can also carry out internal upgrades and repairs as and when required.

Liam, I have finally got that bloody IAT , I'll box that, the 2.7 chip and the yellows up and get them en route.

oh i'm all set for getting MS now 8)

just dont know weather to get the kit or the complete system from Ant

like doing stuff like that so i may just build my own and see how i go

only thing i'm worried about is the tuning part of it, have no idea about all the settings

you goin to install MS yourself?

Get a pre-made kit, with a map, sensors etc, really does make it as easy as poss.

As for tuning, well the map will be nearly and with a WB and the right programs it can be done.

Either way you have support from Ant, MSEFI and the MS community!

I have a V3 in kit form and damn is there a crap load of bits to solder together!

HTH, Mark.

I'm going to go for one of these eventually, will be nice to ditch the afm! :) Probably be next year now though as the cars still not on the road!

@JohnnyBravo - Ant supplied/installed MS on my 2.7 n/a in preparation for nice clean blower which has been sitting in someone's garage for last few months - highly recommend Ant - was also v.helpful on aftersales! :)

[hijack thread]Ant - i have not even started e30 since may when i got evo - moved house now and car is sitting in paddock all forlorn with flat battery - will charge it up and start it up - must get that blower on - will give you a call- e30 much prettier than e36! - i notice everyone has made mucho progress with with their turbos/blowers - feel a right lazy barsteward[/hijack thread]

hi just wondering what way does a megasuirt work on a m50 and has it been done.also how much for a kit for a m50 planing on turboing it.

Re:

by Ant
M50 needs a custom built kit with 6 coil ignitors dude.

or swop out the COP setup and use a Gm/Bosch 6 pack of double ended coils and run wasted spark( possibly easier to implement)

Re:

by Turbo-Brown
Should be able to run it wasted spark shouldn't you, even with the coil on plug?

Re:

by Ant
hmm, not looked into pairing loads to the ignitors Alex, agreed its doable though, saves on the second HE channel for CPS too

FYI early M50 non vanos uses the same trigger wheel settings as an M20 iirc,

so basicaly what do i need to run the m50 its a vanos one too.has it been done before and what sensors stay and what go or be changed.can yu explain the coil pack more...cheers in advance.

This is how I fire the M42 coils (same coils as M50), it is doable, took a bit of pissing around to get the coil driver circuit reliable though.

Well Iâ┚¬Ã¢”ž¢ve ordered my MegaSquirt system  got the unassembled kit and going to try it myself

Read the MegaManual a few times now but thereâ┚¬Ã¢”ž¢s a few steps Iâ┚¬Ã¢”ž¢m not 100% sure on :? maybe someone could answer them for me?

Step 50.
Whatâ┚¬Ã¢”ž¢s best installing both Hall and VR and then jumper it? And what one do I use? (I think VR?)

Step 54.
It says â┚¬Ã…”aInstall and solder R4 & R7 {2.49KXBK-ND, 2.49k} Temperature sensor â┚¬Ã…”abiasâ┚¬Ã‚a resistors.â┚¬Ã‚a

But below it shows a chart for the sensor, makes and resistor and BMW use 2.2k, do I install the 2.2k resistors?

Step 62.
PWM Idle Valve

Take it im not using one? Do I just install Q2 and Q4 and thatâ┚¬Ã¢”ž¢s it?

Step 65.
Do I install the high current ignition driver?

Step 69.
Do I install PWM Flyback damping circuit / Standard Flyback circuit?

Ok last question lol

Step 71.
Do I install the current limit circuit for driver FET protection?

Cheers again guy's 8)

Jumper for VR dude, Hall is not required.
Step 54.
It says â┚¬Ã…”aInstall and solder R4 & R7 {2.49KXBK-ND, 2.49k} Temperature sensor â┚¬Ã…”abiasâ┚¬Ã‚a resistors.â┚¬Ã‚a

Fit them, you'll need to easytherm the stock BMW/Bosch sensor

Step 62.
PWM Idle Valve

Take it im not using one? Do I just install Q2 and Q4 and thatâ┚¬Ã¢”ž¢s it?

yup, or get a tip444 and fit it all, but dont use the connection on the DB37
Step 65.

Do I install the high current ignition driver?

Yes mate, VB921Z
Step 69.
Do I install PWM Flyback damping circuit / Standard Flyback circuit?

for high Z( imp) you dont need the flyback, just the PWM circuit
Ok last question lol
Step 71.
Do I install the current limit circuit for driver FET protection?

yes dude. I assume you got the stim too ????????????

Is this hard to do? never used EasyTherm before, must go and download it.

for high Z( imp) you dont need the flyback, just the PWM circuit
so do step 70 then?
Ant wrote:I assume you got the stim too ????????????
Yes mate i've ordered the stim to, ordered MS I w/PCB3.0, the stim and tuning cable still need to sort out a wiring harness but not sure when i'll be putting MS in the car

Mate cheers again for all your help
