Just got an idea nd wonderin if it would be worth doin, Puttin a 320is engine (if 1 could be found) in a 318is. Considering it would be 50 hp increase at standard and still the handling advantages of the 4pot it looks good on paper. I know I could just get an M3 but I was thinkin of this cos the engine still looks the same as the orginal 4 insurance

Oh rite thats that finnished with neway Sum1 told me it was the same only 4 being 2L instead of 1.8, Seemed a bit odd 2 me anyway if it was the same and havin 50hp more than the is and even 20 more than a 325

No, the engine is an M3 engine but 2.0 rather than 2.3 so the insurance peeps will spot it a mile off. Nice idea though

It was designed to take advantage of lower tax for engines 2.0 or less in italy or portugal. They didnt get the M3 though

The 2.0 s14 engine will go in easitly enough with the only real problem I can see being the exhaust manifold fouling the steering column. It's an expensive way to get more power with the M42 engine being a gerat unit anyway.

Set of M3 3.2 evo throttle bodies and mega squirt would make her a quick little 1.8. See tims thread.

you're too kind, only actually i think if the pic you're referring to is the one of the engine with the black bits looking standard and no bonnet on, you're actually right - it hadn't really been run before, as i'd just completed the engine conversion!

I certainly think that there's a lot of room for modification to the m42 lump, i'd expect my current lump (2.1, throttle bodies, restricionless intake etc) to make approaching 320is power, although it really needs different cams to make the most of the ITBs.

S14's are only 15 or so kilos lighter than an M20, it's only that it's smaller and the front doesn't over hang the front axle like a 6 pot

Ya I'll probally just mess around wit the m42 when I get my is, getttin a bit tired of my 316lux now wit its boaty handling, All it is, is a stepping stone 4 insurance.
