E30 Zone

Hi all,
After pissing about with the standard alloy plenum i decided to cut a small chunk out of it to make it fit around the smaller servo im using.
A couple of weeks ago i came across a carbon fibre plenum.I have seen pics of them before and one or two in e30's but i wasnt sure it would fit.
The pics i have seen looked as though they'd clear the servo even though the whole airbox is bigger than standard.

Anyway,i bought one,and now its on.
It has radius'd belmouths inside the ports and equal length pipes,i did have to shorten them though to make it fit.

It was getting dark so sorry about the bad pics.

I dont know how much power it will give,to be honest as long as its the same or more than standard im not bothered.The main reason for fitting it was that it clears the servo and master cylinder.
I will take some more in the light tomorrow.

How much clearance is there for the servo and MC? Which servo did you use (I forgot)?

cheers guys,i will take some better pis tomorrow when im working on it.

Need to re-bend the dipstick tube,i just hope it doesnt snap as i had to bend it out over to clear the old plenum,i'll have to bend it back over into the block to come up inbetween inlet 1 and 2.
Might try some heat on it.

I used the golf servo and audi master cylinder (25mm).
It just clears !

Nice. It does look just brilliant.

Will it need any mods to fit the MAF and an air filter or is there enough room up front?

Theres room for the MAF but i think its gonna be tight for the filter !
I may have to cut a hole and drop the filter down into where the nearside brake duct is,either that or a really thin filter.
Anyone know about this alpha N ??
Apparently i can use it to get rid of the maf,dont know much about it appart from its a piggy back ecu.

Audi 25mm master,golf servo.

I did talk to Ant briefly about going standalone on my S50 and I also had a look round the MS site.
It seems it may be possible to just use MS to run the fueling (and possibly the sparks) and leave the normal ECU to run the Vanos. That way the MAF could be removed.

very nice! this one looks much better than the last carbon plenum i saw on an s50 - it had nasty angled flanges where the trumpets met the throttle bodies...
how much have you cut the trumpets back? what does it sound like now?

I took about an inch out,dunno what it sounds like,wouldn't hear it as its got no exhaust at the mo !

I'd like a carbon plenum just for noise (once drove a CSL - sounds like an unsilenced V12 when it hits 5krpm ) but if it improves the fit of an S50, all the better.

Thanks for the email. Yes, for E30 engine conversion cars, my control arm bushings (Eyeball Arms) allow clearance for Stock US exhaust and/or Euro headers to be fitted without modification. They have the same offset as the E30 M3 and 1995 M3 which of course is desireable.

Dont forget those are for LHD cars.
The manifold will still need a lot of modding to fit around the steering joint on our RHD cars.

thought jons prospects were a bit ambitious - if these worked, im guessing there would have been a group buy on these arms. oh well, i guess ill look forward to the sweat and anguish involved in getting all the piping sorted... sniff...

i posted something of this kind in regards to the carbon fibre airbox allowing the standard servo and cylinder to be fitted - i guess this answers that post! im thinking of getting a remote servo - Ԛ£130 on ebay, and thats brand new. lets see how it goes.

Remote servos are for single-circuit braking systems, unless you fit two of them. And I'm not sure they cope well with DOT 5.1 brake fluid, which you'd want to use with such power.
