E30 Zone

I have a 92 325i touring and would love to improve performance and really like the idea of a stock looking engine but with a bit more juice.
I have read various threads on doing the 2.8 stroker thing and sounds ideal but my mechanical abilities are not up to that level..

Various threads about for parts used and how people went about it but I haven't seen any recommendations for places to get this done so would like to see if there are places that come recommended??
Are general car engine builders / machinists up to the job or is it something that people need to know about the ins and outs of an e30 engine? ( I would presume the latter )

Also on a side note, I know it's a case of how big is your wallet but how little can you spend, when on a budget, for a good job? 1K, 1.5K, 2K etc??

Your looking at £3000 for a straight forward rebuild inc parts if your intending on paying somebody to do the work.
Im close to the final assembly of an M20B28 thats had lots of machining/mods done, everything renewed for new oem parts etc, I hate to think what the owner has spent

Not really within my budget then unfortunately..

Out of interest, what sort of difference in performance would there be in going the 2.8 stroker route compared to say maybe just getting a rebuild with some port and polishing work and a decent chip?

Well, that's disappointing on both fronts then

i would suggest that you get all the parts you need and give it to the machine guy to assemble the basic bottom end, basically the crank, rods, pistons and bearings and do the rest (oil pump seals, covers sump etc yourself.

Same with the head you get the head guy to check, refresh and cleaned etc grind valve job assemble with valve and springs, etc. but leave other assembly of valvetrain (cam, rockers, shafts seals,to yourself

The rest is not hard with a Bentley and the forums just take your time. if you manage to get a spare engine for cheap then you have plenty of time to build it in parallel with still having your car available for use.
