ive got a spare b25 in the garage and the head is rather shiney and looks very clean, cleanest ive seen, although inside looks a bit dirty, anyway is there a way i can check if its had new parts such as valve seals, a head skim, new rockers etc

Do you know what age the lump is? does it have the later torx type head bolts or the earlier hex ones?
My 1988 325i touring, for example, has the earlier type so I know it's never had a head gasket replaced as it probably would have the later bolts installed as part of a new kit.

The lump is 1989, will have to look at that, can you not buy the older bolts anywhere now like?

I'm not sure but I think they were a revised part by BMW at least.

IIRC the heads have a marking on them to say where the limit you can skim down to is.
