A little help regarding V8 conversions...

Hi guys- I am currently researching an article on V8 conversions and was looking to you guys for a little help if at all possible. :D

The basic premise of the piece is to look at V8 conversions outside the 'normal' Rover/Ford lumps. i.e. Lexus, BMW, Jag, Audi and Mercedes.

So if anyone knows anyone who has done such a conversion and could point me in their direction or if anyone is a V8 specialist then your input would be greatly appreciated. In terms of completed / in-progress conversions I would just be looking for a couple of pics to illustrate the piece.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Aaron

I'd imagine Glenn would be the man to talk to with regards to this Aaron.

The V8s will all physically fit being only 4.5 cylinders long, its the siting of the relative components and sump etc that will prove the biggest nightmare

An M60 from a late e34 should bolt straight in, the sump is correct for the e30 X member, the G/boxes are quite bulky though and all conversions are liable to need custom mounts, G/box X member and propshaft making up

Good topic BTW

I suppose there should be some difficulties with the wiring - the ecu's are complicated. The exhaust i suppose will be a problem too. If the swap wasn't so sophisticated it would be much more popular, like the m30 swap.

Glenn, thanks for your reponse- my PM's kept coming up as failed so I don't know if you will get them.

'I just said Thanks for coming back to me. By Hi-res I just meant if you could maybe e-mail me a couple of the original pics rather than the smaller ones on the topic? Just that when printed they have to be of a certain dots-per-inch.'

Cheers,
Aaron

AKG Motorsport has the Motor Mounts needed for the swap. The difficult part will be fabricating exhaust manifolds, since supposedly none of the factory ones fit :?

you can use v8 alpina mounts although they cost a fair few dollars.

i will have my own mounts finished today .

5speeed manual from an e34 3.0 v8 used with 325 crossmemer and gear linkage bolts into place without issue.

unmodded m3 prop can be used or a custom jobbie

engine is very wide so the servo will need relocating.

Not even room for a hydraulic set up.

Exhausts manifolds are a big issue but i reckon i can mod the originals without too much trouble.

this is mine so far
