i know the non vanos engines are pretty easy to turbo, but ive been told that cus i have a vanos m50 its not suitable

looking for a few facts and some info if anyone has turbo'd an m50b25 vanos engine,

vanos on an m50 is very easy to control as it is either on or off.

Its all about the mapping, its more difficult to map a vanos engine but it obviously depends on who is doing the mapping to how well it comes out

ahh thats not so bad then, id been hearing horror stories about issues with them blowing up

im guessing this is related to the m52 alloy block and not the vanos.........i assume with the higher pressures the threads can be stripped from the block?

ahh, mines an m50 though so doesnt have an alloy block, so i should be alright i guess

Any engine that gets fitted with a turbocharger could blow up, regardless whether it has vanos or not. as already stated its the mapping that is key.

some advice for you is not to run before you can walk. Turbo conversions are not cheap and require a lot of fabrication, this means the car will be off the road for ages. Also unless you spend decent money on parts you will end up with an inferior product.

Rather than setting your sights on a turbo conversion have you thought about increasing the displacement of your m50? its easier and a lot cheaper.

ive been thinking about the time and cost and was gunna save up and buy all the stuff before i start, was thinking of using the car as is till xmas time then going full steam ahead into fitting a turbo,

id rather going down the turbo route, bhp gain for the money would be a lot better than just changing the displacement, and the thought of something around 400bhp kinda makes me
