most the kits youd buy are chinese and wouldnt touch them most of the stuff you wouldnt use im nearly at the end of my turbo build and spent approx 4 k on it so far and it still aint running yet
as far as engine wise there isnt alot involved uprated head studs a good turbo like a hx35 holset or some thing of simular size depending on what sort of horse power you want
then theres managment you can piggy bk the ecu with a chip or ultimatly go standalone eg megasquirt, vems etc
what are ya goals bhp wise ?

ahh ok, so the best bet is to buy good stuff bit by bit an not a kit. like a uprated Clutch,Turbo,Turbo manifold,wastegate,intercooler,plumbing/pipes ect, injectors, control mechanism for controlling fuel. downpipe, exhaust, uprated head studs, megasquirt. is there anything im missing?? and about 300bhp would be enough for me for now.

yeah that what I done bought every thing bit by bit I've been on it 9 months now
300 is quite reachable
don't go cheap as it always backfire on ya there are guys on here that have huge amounts of knowledge on turbo bmws
I've took most of there advice as they know what there talking about
I made my own exhaust out of 3 inch stainless check out my photo thread if ya like have alook see what I've done

You might not even need to touch the engine to reach 300 hp. A good intercooler and the right turbo and manifold are very important.
For 300 flywheel horsepower a pressure ratio of 2.15 (1.15 bar of boost after compressor) should suffice. With pressure loss across the intercooler that will be 1 bar in the inlet manifold. You will be flowing 29.5 lb/min of air for 300hp. Without an intercooler your intake temps will be 120 celcius. With an intercooler of efficency of 0.7 that will fall into the 51 Celcius with an ambient temp of 20 C! The air charge may get too hot on summer days. If you intercooler has an effciency of 0.85 your air charge will be 35 C with an ambient temp of 20 C.
Standalone engine management will be important with a MAP sensor.
A GT30R has you desired flow in the peak efficency island as does the T04E-50. A GT28RS has your desired flow to the right the efficency island about half way between this and the choke point. This could be desirable as you keep away from the surge line at lower RPM. You also need to choose the right turbine housing size. I cannot comment much on the holst 35 turbo except that at 30 lb/min at a pressure ratio of 2.15 you are slap slightly to the left of the centre of the map at that pressure ratio.
Mitsubishi also do suitable turbo's. The TD04HL-18T should just work without choking but the TD04HL19T or 20G would the better (the last one put you a bit closer to the efficency island at 0.225kg/s flow).

im selling all the bits i bought to do a turbo conversion to my e30 325 m20. started off with an ebay turbo kit, plug and play megasquirt, then a hx35 turbo as i thought the one with the kit wouldnt be enough, samco coolant hoses, stainless exhaust of a escort rs turbo( to be cut up and re welded) all sorts, none of it even been near a car, spent a lot of money.... run while you can! or buy all my bits haha
