The engine loom should swap easily enough (if I've understood the question) without the whole car loom. It is connected to the ECU under the steering wheel, and a huge circular multiplug type effort near the fusebox. Everything else just unclips off the engine (sensors) or unbolts (starter, alternator, coil). There is a sticky thread to check either this forum or the tech help forum, can't remember which. Some models have earth connections to the big circular socket that are redundant, with some engine looms you are connecting the earth side to direct live and will short out the loom. Other than that possibility, all pretty straightforward.
